Following yesterday’s government announcement, we are ready to proceed with our plans for the first phase of wider re-opening of Tunbury Primary School.
As expected, the timescales will be:
- Year R children returning on Tuesday 2nd June
- Year 1 children returning on Thursday 4th June
- If possible, Year 6 returning on Monday 8th June
If your child is in Year R or Year 1, we are now asking you to tell us whether they will be returning to school next week. Please read our guidance at www.tunbury.kent.sch.uk/News to help you to decide, including last week’s bulletin and our video for Year R. We will be making a new video for Year 1 on Monday.
Once you have made your decision, please tell us if your child is returning to school using our online forms:
- For Year R children: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/TunburyYearRJune2 . This form closes at 11am on Monday 1st June.
- For Year 1 children: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/TunburyYear1June4 . This form closes at 11am on Wednesday 3rd June.
- If you do not wish your child to return to school, you do not need to take any action now.
When the online forms close, teachers will work together to create our new teaching groups for our returning children. The details of your child’s group and allocated entry/exit time slots will then be emailed to you during that afternoon. We’re sorry, but we won’t be able to place or move children between teaching groups to accommodate parental preferences. Teachers will do their best to ensure children are with known adults and established friendships wherever possible, but please remember that they may not be in their normal classroom or with their normal class teacher.
If your child has already been attending school under the key worker/vulnerable child provision, then they can continue to attend – you don’t need to let us know. However, your child’s experience will now be very different, due to the new guidelines in place for wider re-opening. Parents/carers will no longer enter the school site, but drop children off at the side gate. Please watch the Key Worker video at www.tunbury.kent.sch.uk/News to see how this will work. For the first week, the time slots for the key worker groups entering at the side gate will be 8.40-8.50 drop-off and 3.10-3.20 collection.
If your child is eligible for key worker/vulnerable child provision and you would like them to attend school for the first time, please contact the school office by phone or email to arrange this. To give us time to arrange groupings, please do this at least one day before their first attendance. (However, if your child is in Year R or Year 1 and returning next week, please fill in the online form but enter ‘Key Worker’ after your child’s name.)
For family groups with more than one child coming to school, including key workers, siblings should enter school together at the gate for the youngest child in the family group.
If your child is in Year 6, we will let you know as soon as we can whether we can re-open for this year group. We expect this decision to be with you on Thursday, after both Year R and Year 1 have returned.
The school office will re-open after half term on Monday 1st June, but due to staff training between 9-11am, phones and emails will not be answered until after this time.
We understand that you may have a number of questions about how the return to school will operate. It is a challenging time and although we have worked carefully on our risk assessment and planning, this is new for all of us. We are very much looking forward to seeing more Tunbury children back in school and hope that this will be a first step back towards some kind of normality. Although at first it will feel very odd, our experience so far is that children in school throughout lockdown have been incredibly adaptable and positive, so we will get there, slowly! Thank you for your continued support.
