WEEKLY BULLETIN: FRIDAY 2ND DECEMBER 2022

Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers

As we near the end of the Autumn term, we’re looking back at just how far children have already come this academic year. We are so proud of each and every one of our fabulous children for their determination, wonderful behaviour and thirst for learning. As well as this week’s Assessment Week for individual children’s current attainment, we have been looking at learning across the whole school in Reading and History. In Reading, we saw huge enthusiasm for our improved approach to teaching Reading in Years 3-6. Children now spend more time reading each day and we have invested in new books to make sure that every child has their own copy of the class text to read. In History, we found an excellent understanding of chronology and recall of important historical events, like the Gunpowder Plot (Year 1) or the Great Fire of London (Year 2). For more details of what children learn at Tunbury, you can view our curriculum pages for English and History on our school website.

Now that Advent has begun, it’s beginning to feel a little Christmassy here in school! With decorations in our hall and classrooms, we’re looking forward to the Christmas period to come…

Please join us tomorrow for our TSA Christmas Market, in school from 2.00-4.00. We have children’s crafts, trade stalls, game stalls, gifts, as well as the chance to win some fantastic hampers in our Christmas raffle. We also have the opportunity to meet Santa himself…. our tickets to Santa’s Grotto can be pre-booked at The Tunbury School Association (TSA) (pta-events.co.uk)  We look forward to seeing you there!

Continuing with the Christmas theme, we’re looking forward to each year group’s Christmas events. For children in Year R, you’ll already have received details and tickets for your Christmas performances in the school hall. For Years 1 and 2, you’ll receive your tickets next week. For our older children, we’re holding Carols on the Playground on at 2.55 on Thursday 15th (for Year 3 & 4) and Friday 16th (for Year 5 & 6) and there is no need to book for these outdoor events – just come and join us.

Finally, just a reminder that next Friday is Christmas lunch and Christmas jumper day – please see the notices section for further details.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes

Ruth Austin

Headteacher

Notices

After school clubs: Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the afterschool clubs running on Monday 5th December have been cancelled.  We apologise for any inconvenience caused.  Also please be reminded that all clubs will not be running on the last week of term, meaning next week will be the final sessions of this current series of clubs. Details of new clubs will be notified to you in the New Year. Please note this does not apply to Energy Kidz.

Christmas Jumper Day: Our school community are supporting ‘Save The Children, Christmas Jumper Day 2022’. It will be held on Friday 9th December and this will also be the day we have our school Christmas Lunch. We are inviting the children to not only wear their Christmas jumpers, but to be in non-uniform that day too (as ‘Christmassy’ as possible please!). Please donate £2 per pupil to go to Save the Children. We would like donations to be made online via just giving at: Christmas Jumper Day 2022 is raising money for Save The Children!

Together we can make sure that children everywhere get the food they need, to laugh, play and see wonder in the world.

TCS Christmas Lunch: This will be taking place on Friday 9th December.  As usual, this dinner is free for children in KS1/EYFS and is a cost of £2.30 for children in KS2. Please send in the cash in a named and labelled envelope, ideally before Wednesday 7th December.  Alternatively, ensure parent mail is topped up ready for this day.

Change of Menu: Due to Christmas dinner on Friday next week, Fish and Chips will be served on Wednesday 7th December.

Payment for TCS school lunches: With effect from the start of Term 3, Wednesday 4th January, the school kitchen will no longer be taking cash payments. Please pay for school lunches online via Parentmail.

School photos: The photographs of individual children taken last week have been emailed direct from Tempest to parents. The email is from: no-reply@tempest-orders.co.uk. If you have not received your emailed photograph order details, please check on your 'junk' email account. Proofs of the sibling group photographs were sent out from school via classes on Monday afternoon. Orders for either photographs can be placed online. (Please note we are a cashless office so orders must be placed and paid for online). Please place your orders by Wednesday 7th December so that the photographs can be processed before the end or term. Please contact the school office if you have a query.

Team Points: Holmes team are in the lead, with two more weeks to go – well done!  Can you hold on until the end of term?

Admissions for children starting school in September 2023 are now open: Applications for a primary school place should be made via your ‘home’ local authority.

If you have missed one of our four meetings or wish to re-visit to see the school again or find out more, you can arrange a further visit or phone call by contacting the school office.  We would be happy to help with any queries you may have.
