Headteacher’s message to parents/carers
Dear Parents/Carers,
Congratulations to Emerald class, who were the winners of our Tunbury ‘NSPCC Rocks’ TT Rockstars competition. Children in Emerald class scored an amazing 20,925 correct answers on TT Rockstars last Friday. Also, thank you for your kind donations for Number Day. Altogether, we raised £253 for the NSPCC. Hopefully children are enjoying playing on TT Rockstars at home, upgrading their avatars as well as improving their maths knowledge! I know that some of our children are already improving their Rock Status – is anyone a Busker, Headliner or Rock Legend yet? Please visit https://ttrockstars.com/ over half term to play.
Thank you Team Tunbury for your amazing response in sharing our search for an emergency out-of-hours Npower engineer on Tuesday evening. Although this proved to be an impossible task, we appreciated your help, as always. We have complained to our energy provider Laser and meter operator Npower regarding their total lack of support outside office hours on Tuesday evening through to Wednesday morning, which resulted in our school closure on Wednesday. A representative from Laser stated ‘I apologise for the impact this has caused. The frustration and disruption created was not acceptable and I want to ensure this is investigated fully.’ We have not yet had any response from our complaint to Npower.
Aside from our difficulties on Wednesday, it’s been another great week of learning in school, with some fabulous enrichment opportunities taking place. Yesterday’s Pirate Day in Year 2 was amazing – so much enthusiasm among Orange, Pink and Lavender class children – well done! We also held our Year 3/4 Open Afternoon, where Year 3 classes opened their very own chocolate factory in the hall and Year 4 made some amazing clay sculptures with the help of their parents and carers. Today, we have Year 4 Roman Day and Year 5 Poles Apart day. Year 4 have some special Roman visitors in school and Year 5 are enjoying some polar activities whilst looking super cosy! Thank you to our brilliant staff team for going the extra mile, bringing our curriculum to life through these special events. Thank you to you, our parents and carers, for your wonderful support for children’s learning, including creating some amazing outfits for our themed days.
We hope that all of our families have a lovely half term break together. Please remember that we have an INSET day on Monday 20th February, so children return to school on Tuesday 21st February. Take care, and we look forward to seeing you for the start of Term 4.
Have a lovely half term break everyone.
Best wishes

Our Learning Year 4
This term in Year 4, we have been enjoying our learning about the Romans. We discovered the tragic story of Pompeii and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, whilst reading the book ‘Escape from Pompeii.’ We then read about a little boy called Threptus and his adventures in the port of Ostia. We wrote some instructions to help Threptus destroy a sewer demon.
In topic we have been exploring Roman life, we explain who the Romans were and why they invaded Britain. We then designed our own Roman solider based on our knowledge and understanding of weapons back then. Finally, we discussed whether Boudicca was a hero or villain and the Roman Era came to an end within Britain.
In Science, we have been learning about the digestive system. We began learning the names of different teeth and the purpose they serve when we eat. The children made their own jaws and labelled the teeth. We then investigated the journey of food through various experiments, take a look below. Following this we discussed the diets of animals and created a variety of food chains based on our chosen animals.
In computing, we have explored coding and algorithms creating shapes, letters and numbers. We have also discussed how to stay safe online and who to talk to if needed.
