Headteacher’s message to parents/carers 

Dear Parents/Carers, 

Congratulations to Attenborough Team for their victory in KS2 Sports Day last week and Rowling in KS1!  

The final scores were as follows: 

Everyone in Team Tunbury was proud of the contribution made by every single child, so well done everyone!  Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for the Family Picnic, which was a lovely occasion. 

This wasn’t our only sporting success to report on – please take a look at the notices below to read about our Cricket and Athletics teams. 

Another fabulous day in Team Tunbury today with plenty going on in school, with Year R’s Around the World day, Year 2’s African Mask Workshop and Year 3’s Heroes and Heroines day.  In Year R, children are getting ready to go through passport control and board their Tunbury Airways plane for a special flight.  In Year 2, children are creating their own beautiful masks in a hands-on creative workshop.  In Year 3, children are dressed up as their own future ambitions: so far this morning I’ve met a future dancer, vet, scientist, archaeologist, football player, artist, teacher, doctor, archaeologist, military officer and judge.  Amazing! 

It has been hot again this week and we’ve had some queries about whether we should have switched to PE kits/own clothes because of the heat.  The Great British Weather is never straightforward and these decisions can be complex, but this week’s weather has not been directly comparable to the extreme heat we experienced two weeks ago.  Then, we had an unprecedented Met Office red warning for extreme heat for three consecutive days.  This time, we have continued to make adjustments including our ‘shade only’ lunchtimes, children in KS2 not wearing their ties, children being encouraged to hydrate throughout the day, many children bringing frozen water bottles as well as a full bottle of water and staff being alert to the signs of heat-related health issues.  As well as this, we are starting to plan ahead to additional air-conditioning installation before next summer.  Please be assured that we are doing our very best to make appropriate adjustments and look after everyone whilst they are in school. 

Tomorrow, we’re looking forward to our annual summer TSA event: GlasTUNBURY.  Please join us!  Our TSA committee have been working hard to prepare for this and make it a success, so please come along.  As always, there will be plenty to enjoy including live music, Fire Engine, inflatables, bungee trampolines and lots more.

GlasTUNBURY tomorrow, Saturday 11^th July, 1pm-5pm

Mini Youth Games Cricket and Athletics 

Congratulations to our Cricket team for taking part in the Mini Youth Games Cricket tournament.  We played 6 matches and won 3, drew 1 and lost 2, leaving us with a commendable 5^th place finish from 12 teams.  Well done! 

Also, congratulations to our Athletics team for taking part in the Mini Youth Games Athletics event.  Our team competed in running (100m, 200m, mini-marathon), jumping (triple jump, long jump, vertical jump) and throwing (javelin, discus, cricket ball throw) and did a marvellous job.  We finished in 24^th place out of 49 teams, another top half finish!  Great work everyone.

Annual Reports: Today, you will have already received your child’s Annual Report by email.  Please contact the school office if you have any issues with receiving or opening the report, and please speak with your child’s class teacher if you have any questions about their learning. 

Class Photos: Tempest Photographers will be in school, to take class photos for all year groups, next week on Wednesday 15^th July.  If you do not want your child to be included in the class photo, please will you contact the school office to let us know.

Weekly Class Attendance: This is a weekly feature on our bulletin to highlight and celebrate good levels of attendance. In KS2, our winners are Turquoise class with a brilliant 99.11%. Our KS1 winners are Bears class with a fantastic 98.56%. Amazing work everyone, keep it up!

Team Points: Congratulations to Attenborough team, still in the lead.  It’s the last week of the race next week and our Year 6 House Team Captains are in charge of the reward, which is going to be a water run (like a colour run but with water).  Sounds like fun!

Class Assemblies

Class assemblies will be held in the school hall on Friday afternoons.  Parents/carers and family members from each class are warmly invited to join us in school for these events, as our children love to share their learning with you.  Please come to the front of the school and wait outside the hall entrance doors. You will be invited in at just before 2.50pm.  The assembly will begin at 2.50pm and last for about 10 minutes, finishing in time for you to collect your children at the end of the school day, as normal.
