Headteacher’s message to parents/carers
Dear Parents/Carers,
Today, we are raising money for Children in Need, with Team Tunbury looking particularly fabulous! Thank you to our School Councillors for leading our school-wide charity work, as usual. As well as wearing Pudsey-related clothes, we’ve also been enjoying the ‘Strictly 25 Step Dance Challenge’ throughout the week. Why not ask your child to show you the moves? Then, if you’d like to compare this to the original choreography, please take a look at Strictly 25 Step Dance Challenge - BBC Children in Need !
Children in Need funds vital support for children and young people struggling with challenges caused by mental health, poverty, social inequality and family-related issues. Anything we can do to help support this charity will have a huge impact on the happiness, wellbeing and potential of children and young people across the UK. We would be grateful for any online donations to Children in Need via: parentpay.com/ParentPayShop
Looking back on this week, I’d like to say a huge thank you for the amazing turnout at this week’s Autumn Open Afternoons. It was lovely to see our classrooms filled with parents/carers/grandparents/visitors, as well as very proud children sharing their learning with you all.
Another highlight of the week was Year 5’s Astrodome, where children were able to explore the solar system without actually leaving Tunbury school hall. Amazing!
Yesterday was a sad day as we had to say goodbye to our wonderful Year 1 Teaching Assistant Mrs Ruck, who is retiring this week after 18 years in the role. As well as the sadness, we are all incredibly grateful for everything she has contributed. Mrs Ruck is well known for her naturally kind, caring and wise approach, which has touched so many children’s lives. On behalf of everyone at Tunbury, we wish Mrs Ruck all the very best for a long and happy retirement with plenty of exotic travel and wins for West Ham!
Looking ahead, just a reminder that our Friday program of Class Assemblies start next week, with Turquoise class bravely going first. Every class’s assembly date is published in the diary dates section of our weekly bulletins. We look forward to seeing you there.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
Best wishes
Ruth Austin

New Entrants for September 26: Our first Stay and Play session took place this week, where we had 11 small people and their grown-ups joining us in Owls class for a fabulous hour of play. The Stay and Play sessions are brand new for this year, for pre-school aged children (aged two and a half or older) to attend with a parent/carer. The session lasts an hour and will take place in our Reception classrooms and outdoor learning areas. It's the perfect chance for your child to play and get to know us here at Tunbury. Our friendly staff will be there to guide you and answer any questions you may have. Our next Stay and Play session is on Monday 1st December 9-10 am.
As well as the Stay and Play, we also have our small group school tours. These started this morning and are also taking place on Wednesday 19th November (12.45 and 1.45), Thursday 27th November (9.00 and 10.00), Tuesday 2nd December (12.45 and 1.45) and Friday 12th December (9.00 and 10.00). The dates of all our events are on our website at www.tunbury.kent.sch.uk/New-Entrants/ To book onto any of these events, please email newentrants@tunbury.kent.sch.uk

Pupil Leadership: We have now completed our Pupil Leadership appointments for this academic year. We received 235 applications for a variety of different roles this year and we would like to congratulate all children who applied and went through the interview process.
This week, we would like to celebrate our Subject Ambassadors, some of whom are already doing a fabulous job championing their subjects!

Fireworks update: TSA would like to convey thanks for your support for this event. They were aiming for a target of raising £1500. However they are pleased to report that this target was absolutely smashed and an incredible £2663.87 was raised for TSA funds at this event. Thank you to everyone who helped or attended the event.
Road safety: Next week, we’ll be helping children with road safety by thinking about this in assembly and handing out ‘Be Bright Be Seen’ reflective disks. These can be attached to children’s coats or bags so that they are more easily seen in dark conditions as they walk to/from school. We have a reflective disk for every child. Children will be bringing these home on Monday.
Weekly Class Attendance: Our KS1 winners are Owls with a fantastic 99.07% Fantastic work from Owls Class! Our KS2 winners are Indigo Class with a brilliant 100%.Keep up the great work everyone!
