Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

Today is Science Day, so every class has been getting involved in Science activities and making their own scientific discoveries.  Different year groups are exploring the answers to different questions…. For example, Year 5 are experimenting with blubber to answer the question ‘How are polar animals adapted to survive?’ and Year 1 are making different tails to answer the question ‘Why do monkeys have prehensile tails?’  In assembly this morning, we also enjoyed a Tunbury Science Quiz, which for the second year running was won by Pink class in Year 2 – great Science knowledge Pink class!

Science Day and Book Week are just some of the different enrichment activities we design to keep learning fresh and interesting, so we really hope that your children come home ‘full of beans’ and want to tell you all about it.

Next week, we have our Spring Term Open Afternoons, and we look forward to welcoming you into our classrooms.  Please see the Diary Dates sections for details of the dates/times for each year group.   As a reminder, our general guidance for Open Afternoons is as follows:

  •  Please come to the front gate of the school and wait outside the school office - we will then invite you in at 2.00.
  •  Families are not limited to one visitor per child, but please be mindful that classrooms will be very crowded.
  •  Please do not use your mobile phone during Open Afternoons. Ideally, all mobiles should be switched off. Taking photos, sending messages or making calls is not allowed while in our school buildings.
  •  If younger siblings come with you to Open Afternoon, we ask you to be responsible for making sure that they are well supervised and not disturbing others. School staff may ask you to leave the classroom if younger siblings are really noisy – thank you for your understanding.
  •  There is no space for pushchairs or buggies in the classrooms, but you can leave these items in the playgrounds ready for you to collect at home time.
  •  After enjoying an hour of Tunbury learning, at 3.00 we’ll ask you to leave classrooms and move to the playgrounds for home-time collection as usual.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes

Book Week – Monday 4th – Friday 8th March

Last week we had a very successful Book Week.  The children enjoyed reading a variety of alternative traditional tales and enjoyed taking part in a variety of other book related activities.  The week culminated in character dressing-up for World Book Day and a spectacular staff pantomime - ‘Janet and the Magic Beans’.  A big thank you to all children, parents and staff for making Book Week such a success.  Please see below for photographs of our competition winners from the week.

Staff Pantomime

A very special well done and thank you to all of the teachers who gave up time after school this term to put together their own ‘twisted tale’ - Janet and the Magic Beans.  The performance was incredible and good fun was had by all children and staff in the audience.  Rumour has it that there may be a summer panto at the end of this academic year so watch this space….!

Let Girls Play – Friday 8th March

We took part in the Biggest Ever Football Session on International Women’s Day on the 8th March. Girls from every year group were invited to play at lunchtime with 109 girls taking part! They all played with fantastic enthusiasm and sportsmanship, not a single argument among them! There are plenty of spaces in our girls football club (Yr 4-6) on a Monday, so if your daughter enjoyed herself, please contact the office to join us!

Many thanks to Mrs Austin, Mrs Stallard, plus Holly, Amy and Ewan from Year 6 for their assistance.
