Headteacher’s message to parents/carers
Dear Parents/Carers,
It’s Children in Need today and we are all looking truly spotty, yellow, stripy or Pudseyed! If you haven’t already done so, please make your £2 donation (per child) online at Just Giving - Tunbury Primary School This £2 donation includes today’s dressing up as well as one entry into the ‘Design your own Pudsey Competition’ – we’ll be judging this competition on Monday, so it’s not too late to take part.
At the time of writing (Friday morning) we have already raised £363. Great work everyone! Here is a reminder from Children in Need about the power of your donations:
Thank you for joining us for this week’s Open Afternoons. It’s so fabulous to see our parents and carers in school, supporting our children’s learning and getting involved. With lots going on this week, my favourite event was Year 1’s Teddy Bears Picnic in the hall, which was a lovely occasion for children, staff and families to share stories together.
Also this week, our Year 6 children have been either on their residential trip or having fun activities in school. At the PGL trip in Windmill Hill (Sussex) children have challenged themselves with lots of outdoor activities – and we look forward to hearing all about it when they return this afternoon.

Homework Policy: We have updated our Homework Policy, which you can read on our school website at Tunbury Primary School - Policies. This shows which types of homework your child will receive in different year groups. One reason for these changes is that we are no longer subscribing to Mathletics from January 2025, due to the extremely high cost of the Mathletics subscription. Instead, Maths homework will be via Numbots (for Year 1 and the start of Year 2) or TT Rockstars (end of Year 2 onwards). We also continue to use Spelling Shed/Ed Shed for English homework. If you need a reminder of your child’s login details for either of these, or if you have any questions about homework, please ask your child’s class teacher.
New Entrants Dates: Do you have a child starting school in September 2025? Please do come and visit us to find out more about joining Team Tunbury! Our school tours started this week and continue from next week.

Reminder: As we do not have a School Crossing Patrol, please be mindful of children and families crossing the road in Tunbury Avenue and Catkin Close, before and after the end of the school day. Please take extra care to drive carefully and slowly around the school, in order to avoid accidents or near misses, and please treat other parents/carers, road users and residents with courtesy and respect, using language suitable for a school environment with young children present. Thank you for your support.
Flu Immunisation: Tuesday 26th November 2024 for Years R, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Please see the letter which was emailed to parents and has been published in the Parents – Letters and Forms section of our website. Please note the e-consent portal closes on 20/11/24, 6 days before our school’s immunisation session, and NHS cannot accept late consents or consents on the day of vaccination.

Class assemblies
Class assemblies will be held in the school hall on Friday afternoons. Parents/carers and family members from each class are warmly invited to join us in school for these events, as our children love to share their learning with you. Please come to the front of the school and wait outside the hall entrance doors. You will be invited in just after 2.45pm. The assembly will begin at 2.50pm and last for about 10 minutes, finishing in time for you to collect your children at the end of the school day, as normal.
