Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

Congratulations to children in Year 1 and Year 2 for their wonderful Christmas performances this week.  We were all so proud to see them take to the stage with such confidence and enjoyment.  We know that our Christmas nativities create happy memories for children, as well as for their Mums and Dads!  Despite the lack of rehearsal time due to Monday’s snow day, children did a marvellous job and warmed all of our hearts in this cold weather.  Great work everyone!  For our older children, we are sorry that we had to cancel our Carols on the Playground, but the icy conditions have made this impossible this week.

Thank you for your support in keeping children’s attendance so high this week, despite the snowy conditions.  After not being able to open on Monday, it’s been fantastic to have almost all of our children back in school from Tuesday – Friday this week, enjoying their last week of learning and our special Christmas events.  The snow and ice have been a real challenge, but we are so grateful to our wonderful Site Manager Mr Barrett for going ‘above and beyond’ the call of duty in enabling us to re-open on Tuesday and stay open all this week.  Tunbury is a big school site, with many gates, paths and entrances, all of which were cleared by Mr Barrett himself – what a super-hero!

On the last day of term, we know that children have lots to look forward to over their Christmas holidays - we wish all of our families a joyful Christmas break.  We know that our children are just a little bit excited about Christmas, so have a wonderful time together.

We look forward to seeing children back in school next term on Wednesday 4th January.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Best wishes

Ruth Austin

Team Points: The Term 2 Team Points race had many twists and turns, but in the end, and after this week’s Golden Team Points, Attenborough team were victorious!  Well done!  Attenborough team’s reward is a team game of Christmas dodgeball in the hall with Mr Kent this afternoon.

Staffing news: Today we’re saying goodbye to Miss Toms, who is relocating away from Kent, as well as Mrs Stedman, who is moving onto a new job after over 15 years at Tunbury!  Thank you to both of you for your service to the school and our community - we wish you all the very best, from everyone at Team Tunbury.

Congratulations to Mrs Ward on the safe arrival of her daughter Matilda, who was born last Friday.  Mother and daughter are doing well – what fabulous news!

Congratulations to Miss Turner, who has all of our best wishes for her wedding tomorrow – have a brilliant day!  On her return in January, Miss Turner will be known as Mrs Jenkins.
