Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week, I want to start by saying a huge well done to our fabulous Year 6 children, who showed a wonderful attitude to learning throughout this week’s Sats tests.  Children sat the tests in GPS (Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling), Reading and Maths from Monday to Thursday this week.  Violet, Emerald and Crimson classes are such strong role models for the rest of our school: they work hard, show excellent behaviour and have a whole range of personal qualities such as resilience, independence and leadership.  As you can tell, we are all very proud of them!  Today, they have finished off their week by taking their Reception buddies to whole-school break, which will run on Fridays until the end of term.

Also this week, thank you to our Year 1 parent/carers who joined us for our moon buggy making Open Afternoon on Wednesday.  When I visited our Year 1 classes the next day, children showed off their creations and were able to tell me all about it.  We had moon buggies with many different features: flags, security cameras, aliens, laptops, sofas, rocket boosters and all kinds of upgrades.  I’m told that all of our parents/carers got really involved in this session, so thank you for showing your support and interest in children’s learning, as always!

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes

Ruth Austin

OPAL Update

After the successful opening of our sandpit, we are thrilled to announce the opening of a digging area in one corner of the school field.  This will be open for children to play in during lunchtimes from Monday next week, along with the sandpit and other zones to play in.  A big thank you to Leybourne MOT centre for donating over 30 tyres for the boundary of the area. Photos to come on our Facebook page!

The next areas we would like to open are role play and ‘small world’.  More information on this will be shared with children in due course.  Please could you help us get ready for this by donating any play items that children could use in these areas?  All donations need to be in good condition (not broken/cracked/sharp) and will be collected at the gates next week, from Monday.  Please see below our role play and small world ‘wishlist’.  Thank you so much for your help.

Our Learning: Year 6

It has been a busy few weeks in the run-up to SATs in Year 6. We are so proud of how hard they have each worked to achieve the best they can.

This week, the children have proven that their maths revision has paid off as they became experts in identifying and correcting errors in a completed paper. They enjoyed being the marker and were able to clearly explain what had gone wrong in each question.

In PSHE this term, we have been learning about looking after our physical health and mental wellbeing. The children completed their hot tasks for this topic, demonstrating clearly that they understand that both our physical and mental health are as important as each other and we should prioritise looking after them. We have discussed how it is ok not to feel ok, and what we can do for ourselves and others when they are struggling with their mental wellbeing.

Putting their learning about taking care of their mental wellbeing into practice, the children spent some time each afternoon on the field. They enjoyed playing football, doing gymnastics and even getting extra time in our brand-new sandpit!

The end of SATs meant a celebration was in order, so on Thursday we headed over to Tunbury Park. Despite the cold weather, the children had a great time and were treated to an ice lolly!

Tunbury parent/carer survey: The survey is still open, but is closing soon at the end of term.  Please help us to celebrate Team Tunbury’s achievements this academic year.  Is there someone or something that has made a big difference to your child, this year?  Are there special events which you would like to see us repeat?  Your responses help us to review the successes and stand-out moments from this year, as well as identifying priorities for next year.

This year, we have made it even quicker for you to complete the survey – it should only take about 6 minutes of your time.  We do want to hear from as many people as possible, so we’re conducting the survey earlier than usual and trying to boost the number of responses we get with a few different reminders.

You can access the survey via www.surveymonkey.com/r/TPS2025 .  The survey is for all Tunbury parents/carers.  It is anonymous, but if you wish you can add your name or request a call-back from us.  Thank you for your ongoing support.
