Headteacher’s message to parents/carers
Dear Parents/Carers,
On Monday, we held our Black History Month assemblies, where children in every year group shared their learning on a Black History hero. We learned so much. As well as this, Tunbury governor Lola Oyewusi attended our assemblies in traditional Nigerian dress and spoke with children about respect, diversity and equity for all. Our chosen Black History Month heroes were as follows: Year 1 Rosa Parks, Year 2 Jean-Michel Basquiat, Year 3 Katherine Johnson, Year 4 Walter Tull, Year 5 Muhammad Ali and Year 6 Simone Biles. Why not ask your child what they learned about their year group’s hero, or whether they remember what Lola told them in assembly?
Thank you so much for your Harvest donations! We were overflowing with an abundance of produce, thanks to your thoughtfulness and generosity. Your donations were collected by Medway Foodbank this week and will be much appreciated by families in need in our local area.
This week was the final session for Year 3’s Forest School (for almost all of the groups). I popped outside a couple of times to see children sitting around their fire and toasting marshmallows together – what a lovely moment for them all. A child’s journey through primary school creates many happy memories, and this is one we hope they will treasure. As well as this, children built their own swings, explored our newly-repaired wooden bridge and engaged in imaginative play with their friends.
A huge thank you to our TSA for running our Autumn term school discos yesterday. I’m still humming ‘Sweet Caroline’ as I write! Children certainly had a lot of fun, with the highlights being Year 2 performing their ‘Thriller’ dance (from their PE lessons) and lots of Happy Birthdays in Year 4, 5 and 6!
Finally, just a reminder that next week is the last week of term. School is closed for an INSET day on Friday 25th October, where all staff will receive training on autism from the Autism Education Trust. This means that children’s last day at school before half term is Thursday 24th October.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
Best wishes
Ruth Austin
