Weekly Bulletin: Friday 18th September 2020
Our sense of community is important to us all at Tunbury and as you’ll know, we’re proud to be supported by the TSA. This week, we held our TSA AGM (an online meeting, of course) to review the year and look ahead. During the first half of last academic year, a series of successful events were held including the quiz night, fireworks spectacular, Christmas fayre, Christmas present room, wreath making event and family disco. Thank you to everyone who supported these events and our brilliant volunteers who made them possible. Obviously the second half of the year was a little quieter…
This year, many of our ‘normal’ TSA events will also not be possible – for example, our fireworks spectacular will not be running, with our booking carried forward to November 2021 instead. Instead, we’ll be planning a different range of virtual events and fundraising opportunities that are compatible with current Covid restrictions. Children may have told you that they have already been designing their Christmas cards in school (as is traditional in September), ready for sale later on in the term. We hope that you will continue to support the TSA through this type of fundraising this year.
Funds raised by the TSA have contributed to a range of school improvements over the last few years. As it’s not possible for parents to visit school at present, we’ll take some photos of recent developments and include these in next week’s bulletin.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to Cath Hughes, who is stepping down from her role as TSA co-chair. Thank you for giving your time so generously - we do really appreciate it. Sarah Mingozzi remains as TSA chair this year and I’m sure she would welcome any contributions or ideas that you might have for future events, so please do get in touch with her via the TSA website at www.pta-events.co.uk/tunbury
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
Covid-19 symptoms: It is vitally important that nobody with symptoms of Covid-19 should approach or enter the school site. Please be aware of the following government advice:
If you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), get a test as soon as possible. Stay at home until you get the result.
The main symptoms of coronavirus are:
- a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
- a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
- a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
Most people with coronavirus have at least 1 of these symptoms.
Parking: We appreciate the school is placed in the middle of a residential area so parking is particularly difficult. However, we continue to receive complaints from parents and local residents in relation to parking around the school. May we remind you to park with consideration of local residents so that they can access their properties. Please do not park on the pavements as this means that people in wheelchairs and parents with prams and pushchairs cannot get by and have even had to walk in the road!
Please help us to ensure the safety of our children and to be a school within a harmonious community. Many thanks in anticipation of your co-operation in this matter.
Entry and exit to school: Please could we remind you of our request for only one adult per family group to be at school drop-off and pick-up times. This is a really simple way of reducing the number of people we have at the school gates at any one time, making social distancing easier for everyone. Thank you to the families who have already been respecting this request.
House Points: At the end of this week, the total for the term is as follows. Well done Holmes! A very narrow lead over Rowling after week 2. Teachers have been awarding team points this week for positive behaviours including good listening, being ready to learn (especially after breaktimes/lunchtimes), excellent presentation and wonderful work.
PE: Thank you for sending children to school on their PE day already dressed in their PE kit. The PE day for each year group is as follows:
Monday: Year 5
Tuesday: Year R and Year 3
Wednesday: Year 2 and Year 6
Thursday: Year 1 and Year 4
Dates for your Diary
Please note: at present, we are planning for all Autumn term events or meetings with parents and carers to be held online, rather than in person. This will include the Autumn term parent consultation meetings.
