Headteacher’s message to parents/carers
Dear Parents/Carers,
This week’s memorable moments have included two wonderful Christmas performances from Year 2 and Year 1. We had the hall full of very proud parents and visitors on both afternoons – thank you for joining us. It was absolutely wonderful to see our little stars shining on stage!
We’re sorry that bad weather led to the postponement of Year 3/4 ‘Carols on the Playground’ yesterday, but we do have a double performance this afternoon. Please join us for Year 3/4 Carols at 2.30-2.50, followed by Year 5/6 Carols at 2.50-3.10. Year 3/4 children will go back to class after their Carols and come back out for home time at the normal time. Year 5/6 children will go home with you, straight after the end of their Carols. This year, all of our Year 5/6 songs are from the Tunbury teachers and teaching assistants’ favourite Christmas film…… any guesses which one it might be?
At the end of a long and successful term, I’d like to end with a simple message: thank you and Happy Christmas! Thank you for all the ways in which you have supported your children’s learning since they came back to school in September. We hope that all of our Team Tunbury children, families and staff enjoy a fabulous Christmas break with lots of time to celebrate the festive season with relatives and friends. We’ve noticed that children are just a little bit excited, so you might be glad that it’s only 6 sleeps to go until the big day!
We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school in 2026 on Tuesday 6th January. Have a lovely Christmas everyone.
Best wishes
Ruth Austin

Staffing update: Today we’re saying goodbye to our irreplaceable Reception Teaching Assistant Mrs Taylor, who is retiring this week after 20 years at Tunbury. Mrs Taylor started here as a Lunchtime Supervisor but since then has worked in the wonderful world of Reception, where she has spent many years supporting our youngest children in their very first steps into school life. As a result of this, there are 100s of Tunbury children who will remember her caring and nurturing approach. Thank you Mrs Taylor!
As well as Mrs Taylor, we’re also saying goodbye and thank you to Lavender class teacher Miss Cheema and Crimson class teacher Mrs Simpson today. Along with children and families in Lavender and Crimson classes, we’re very grateful for the way in which you’ve given children such a positive start to their Year 2 and Year 6 journeys. Thank you!

Children Jumper Day update: Together, we raised £289 for Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day. Thank you for contributing.
Severe weather planning: Thinking ahead to winter, we always try to remain open in periods of snow or severe weather, if it is safe to do so. Just a reminder that parents/carers would be informed via email of any school closure, so please ensure that we do have your correct email addresses. As well as this, we use the Kent Closures website (www.kentclosures.co.uk), where you can also register to receive free email alerts. Emails/alerts are sent as soon as possible after a decision has been made, although exact timings cannot be guaranteed as this depends on site conditions and the completion of an early morning risk assessment by the Headteacher and Site Manager. This information is also published on our website: www.tunbury.kent.sch.uk/Parents/Severe-Weather/
