Weekly Bulletin: Friday 19th November 2021
Headteacher’s message to parents/carers
This week has been Anti-Bullying week in school. Our main message to children, families and staff is Tunbury is united against bullying! We have had a clear focus for children this week on what bullying is - the phrase ‘Several Times on Purpose’ helps us all to understand that bullying involves repeated patterns of deliberate behaviour, often involving an imbalance of power between bullies and victims. In common with many other schools, at Tunbury we might have varied incidences of children occasionally being unkind to each other, but few incidences of bullying.
Please read the notices section below for a further summary of children’s activities in Anti-bullying week. If you have any concerns about bullying affecting your child, please encourage them to talk to an adult in school or use the S.T.O.P Boxes to report this. Alternatively, please make an appointment to talk to your child’s class teacher yourself. Bullying is never tolerated at Tunbury and any member of staff will be able to help you with any concerns.
Today has been Children in Need day. We all enjoyed a Joe Wicks workout at 9.30 this morning, which was fun but exhausting! As we mentioned last week, we have set up a Tunbury Children in Need Just Giving page, to try and raise our target of £500! Please make your donations here using this link: Tunbury Primary School is fundraising for BBC Children in Need (justgiving.com) At the time of writing this bulletin (11.00am on Friday) our total currently stands at £352, 70% of our overall target. Please can you help us to reach or exceed our target?
Have a lovely weekend everyone. Please take care of yourselves and your families.
Anti-Bullying week: Tunbury is united against bullying!
This week was Anti-Bullying week. We started the week with Odd Sock day to highlight that we are all different. On this day we wrote kind messages to our peers. We discussed how it feels when someone is kind to us and why it is important to be kind.
We learnt about the word bullying and our new S.T.O.P boxes. We have two of these in our school, one in KS1 and one in KS2. These are locked boxes where children can post any concerns they have about behaviour that they consider to be bullying. They are checked twice a week by a member of staff. Children are of course still encouraged to speak to school staff if they have any concerns. The S.T.O.P box provides an alternative for any children who may initially prefer to write it down rather than talk to an adult.
We learnt that bullying is behaviour that happens several times on purpose. It can be verbal and physical.
Each child made an anti-bullying poster. We will be selecting some of these to put up around the school and within classrooms.
We hope that your child has enjoyed this week and that they have a better understanding of what bullying is and what to do if they experience or witness bullying. We will be re-enforcing what we have learnt throughout the school year and reminding children to report incidents of bullying to a member of staff or via the S.T.O.P box.
Return of the SEND parent forum!
Thursday 2nd December at 2pm in the Sunshine Room.
We will be re-starting our SEND parent forums this term. The first will take place at 2pm in the Sunshine room until 2.45pm. Tea and Coffee will be available and it is an opportunity to discuss SEND priorities and concerns with parents and carers. Please arrive by 1.55pm via the school office.
The meeting is open to all parents / carers in the Tunbury Primary School community.
We will be holding three part forums a year. The next SEND parent forums will take place in terms 4 and 6.
Covid-19: We have seen a significant number of Covid cases in Year 6 this week, and as a result of this we have taken and implemented advice from our local Health Protection Team. This involves additional Covid control measures for Year 6, which Year 6 parents/carers have already been informed of. These measures will remain in place until the end of next week.
Please stay alert to possible Covid symptoms, get a test promptly if you or your child experience symptoms and follow all NHS guidance. School staff are taking twice weekly Covid tests and we would encourage other adults and secondary school pupils in our community to do the same.
If you have Covid cases in your household, we would encourage all other members of the household (including other children who are still attending school) to take a daily lateral flow test so that any transmission of Covid is detected as soon as possible.
Please continue to follow the current Covid guidance – you can check this at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/
Team Points: This weeks points totals are as follows. Holmes are in the lead – well done!
