Weekly Bulletin: Friday 19th September 2025

Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week, we’ve continued to see children use the entirety of the huge Tunbury school site for their play at lunchtimes.  With so much space and choice in play, children are so lucky… we have the field, the Glade, the sandpit, the digging area, dressing up, music, arts and crafts area, small world play, football, four-square and cricket, amongst other things.  Our intention is to use all these spaces all year round, and to do so, we’re asking children to bring in wellies to keep in school – please see the Notices section for more info on this.  (We’ll explain this in further detail to children in Monday’s assemblies.)

Also this week, our Year 6 children had the first stage of their training in Peer Mediation.   This is a project which we have participated in for several years, with trained Peer Mediators from Year 6 being on duty at lunchtime to help younger children resolve minor peer disagreements respectfully whilst at lunchtime.  We’ll let you know once the new Year 6 Peer Mediators are on duty.

We all experienced traffic gridlock on Tuesday morning, with the majority of children and staff being affected and arriving late to school.  So frustrating for everyone!  Whilst every morning is not as terrible as this, it does highlight the importance of safe and healthy travel into school.  Bluebell Hill is definitely beyond our control, but we had already agreed to work with KCC to resolve traffic issues around school, starting this month.  With this in mind, we completed a baseline survey with all children and staff today to monitor how we travel to school.  On a morning with traffic gridlock, it is definitely quicker and less frustrating to walk rather than drive, for everyone who lives within a reasonable walking distance.  Could you walk to school?

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes

Ruth Austin

Harvest assemblies and donations: Reverend Roe from Walderslade Baptist Church, will be coming in to school to lead our harvest assemblies on Wednesday 30th September. We will be collecting food donations for Medway food bank from Tuesday 23rd September until the morning of Wednesday 30th September.  After our harvest assemblies, Medway food bank will be collecting the donations.  If you are able to donate to this worthy cause, please see below a list of items which Medway food bank are currently in need of:

Parent Governor: Could you be our new Parent Governor?  The 10-day period for nominations for this valuable role is open.  For full information and the nomination form, please refer to the email sent out or You’ll also find the letter and nomination form on our school website at Tunbury Primary School - Letters & Forms .
Nominations must be received by 3.30 on Wednesday 24th September 2025.

Welly Boots:
We are keen to use the school field for as much of the year as is possible, and would ask that all children keep a named pair of welly boots in school.  We have two fabulous storage areas that were built over the summer break where the children will be able to store their wellies.  Having wellies in school will allow children to play on the field during the autumn and winter months.

October Half Term Activity Club: This is running exclusively for Tunbury pupils from 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM on Tuesday 21st October, Wednesday 22nd October and Thursday 23rd October.  We’re already planning another fun-filled programme packed with engaging activities, creativity, and plenty of smiles. Bookings are now open at: Tunbury Primary Multi-Activity Camp - Current Students Only | Pebble

Weekly Class Attendance: This is a weekly feature on our bulletin to highlight and celebrate good levels of attendance. For the second week running, our KS1 winners are Lavender Class with a brilliant 100%. Azure Class are our KS2 winners with a fantastic 99.04%. Keep up the good work!
