Headteacher’s message to parents/carers
Dear Parents/Carers,
It’s been a busy week here at Tunbury, as always. Some of my favourite moments have been seeing just how much fun children have been having at lunchtimes. The new role play area is a big hit for all of our children, all the way from Reception up to Year 6, everyone loves dressing up!
This week, we’ve welcomed families from Year 2 and Year 4 in for Art-themed Open Afternoons – lots of creativity among Team Tunbury! This afternoon, it’s Year 3’s turn for their Open Afternoon, a Science-themed afternoon all about flight. It’s also nearing the end of academic year, meaning that it’s our youngest children’s turn for their class assemblies, with Owls class this afternoon. Thank you for joining us for these events and for all the support you give children at home too.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
Best wishes
Ruth Austin
Headteacher
New OPAL zone: Role Play
This week, we opened our newest lunchtime zone: role play. Following our play assembly on Monday, children have been able to access the role play zone during their lunchtimes and use the resources anywhere on our lower playground. The children have loved the opportunity to dress up and role play with a variety of toys, and generally have fun, as you can see from these images and quotes.
“I love the wigs, especially the blue and white ones.”
“We have played with the teddies, it has been so much fun.”
“I just love seeing the children all dressed up.”
Please can you help? If you have any resources we can add to our role play zone area, we would love to have them. These do not have to be just fancy dress clothes, if you have any old uniforms from your jobs, these are brilliant for imaginative play too.
Kent and Medway Schools Korfball tournament
Congratulations to Harry, Frank, Freddie, Ivy, Tommy and Oliver who took part in the Kent and Medway Schools Korfball tournament on Saturday. Despite only starting to play Korfball this term, our children played so well against more experienced teams, showing great skills and bags of enthusiasm. Their favourite moments were an exciting 2-1 victory against Allington Primary School and a very close match against one of the top teams, Hayes Primary School, who had to work very hard for their 3-2 win. Thank you to the parents and families who cheered them on.
Children received their certificate’s in today’s assembly and were very proud!

Summer Camp: This summer holiday, Strive PE and Sport are coming to Tunbury Primary School to run a multi-activity summer camp open exclusively for Tunbury Primary students, Tuesday 12th August to Thursday 14th August 2025 - three epic days of fun! Strive are offering a wide range of fun-filled activities at just £25 per day for a 8.30am to 4pm session. Further details will be emailed to parents.
TSA Summer event: The Tunbury School Association are proud to present their summer event - GLASTUNBURY!
This is going to be a huge event with something for everyone, so please come along and support our TSA in raising as much money as we can to enrich the experiences of the children at our school. This year, TSA funds have paid for the OPAL project, which has been fantastic for all of our children.
Ways you can help:
- If you are able to volunteer, even just an hour of your time on the day, the TSA would greatly appreciate it. A lot of work goes into planning these events and there is only a small team of TSA members. If you can volunteer, please email chair@thetunburyschoolassociation.com
- Do you have any second hand books, teddies, school uniform or board games that you can donate? These must be in good condition and games must have all the pieces. Please email the TSA at chair@thetunburyschoolassociation.com
Sports Day guidance for next Friday 27th June:
- Children come to school for Sports Day already wearing their PE kits.
- At Sports Day, you are welcome to take photos/videos of your own children, but please remember that these are for you only and not to be shared online or on social media, as we do not have permission for any wider sharing.
- We look forward to seeing you cheer your child on, but please wait until the family picnic for a hug or drink.
- There will be two portaloos for visitors (not for Tunbury children) on the lower car park.
- During the Family Picnic, we ask children to remain around the edges of the field and not play with or move the Sports Day equipment which is left out ready for the afternoon events.
- At lunchtime, our Play Team staff will be on duty and 2 OPAL zones will be open: sandpit and digging zone. if the blue cover is on the sandpit, it is closed. Please do not allow younger children to enter the sandpit or move/damage the cover while it is closed. If the OPAL zones reach capacity, staff members will limit numbers or ask children to wait for their turn. Young visitors (eg preschool children) are welcome to join in but please supervise/support them in their play.
- At the end of the day, please take all your belongings and rubbish/recycling home with you. Thank you.

Great work Pink Class! In KS2 we had three classes who managed 100% attendance. Absolutely fantastic work. Well done to everyone in Scarlet, Sapphire and Azure class. Keep up the good work!
