Proactive week

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week, it is Proactive Week in school.

Today, Team Tunbury has made a proactive choice to support a special day which is very close to our hearts, World Down Syndrome Day.  We value inclusivity and celebrate individuality at Tunbury, and we want all of our children to learn about difference and show kindness, respect and solidarity with every member of our school community.  As part of World Down Syndrome Day, everyone has planted their own sunflower and we’re looking forward to seeing how they thrive over the coming days and weeks.  How tall will they grow?

As you’ll know, at Tunbury Primary School (TPS), our three school values are Thriving, Proactive and Solidarity (TPS).

We are Proactive by taking control of our well-being and education.

To explain this further: We are self-driven forward-thinkers who are energetic and enthused about developing our knowledge and skills.  We pride ourselves in being independent and using our initiative.  We are always ready to take ownership of our learning, actions and responsibilities.

But what does this actually mean for children?

  • Being independent and doing things for yourself
  • Noticing ways in which you can help
  • Learning from your mistakes
  • Being ready to learn, with the right resources and the right attitude
  • Being in class on time, in the mornings, after breaktime and after lunchtime
  • Looking at the visual timetable to see what’s next in your school day
  • Making use of learning resources which are provided for you
  • Proactively editing and correcting your own work
  • Assessing your own risks, especially during OPAL play
  • Making good choices which stop a problem happening or getting worse
  • Being proactive, not reactive

This week, children in every class have been taking extra care to show the school value of Proactive.  Can your child explain to you what it means to be Proactive?

For more information about World Down Syndrome Day and to donate, please see the attached flyer or check our post on Facebook.  Thank you for your support.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes

There are plenty of spaces in our Girls Football Club on a Monday after school (open to Year 3-6) so if any girls enjoyed the session and would like to join the club, please contact the office to sign up.  Miss Hawkes would love to see you there!
