Weekly Bulletin: Friday 20th September 2019
This week I would like to start with a summary of your views from our parent survey. In the end, we had a total of 97 responses – thank you. I found all of your comments insightful and useful in helping me to understand our current position. Every school is different and at Tunbury we have plenty to celebrate, as well as some areas where improvement is needed. There were several common themes running through your responses, including the following top three responses for each question.
What are we famous for?
- The TSA (35 responses) – thank you to our fantastic TSA – you’re doing a great job!
- Quality of our staff team (22 responses)
- Success for children’s learning (15 responses)
What day-to-day things run smoothly?
- Start and end of school day routines (28 responses)
- Our after school and breakfast club (15 responses)
- Talented teachers (13 responses)
What issues do we need to solve or improve?
- Communication (62 responses)
- Information for parents on children’s progress (18 responses)
- The impact of disruptive behaviour on other children’s learning (16 responses)
As well as these themes we also had many other important issues, all of which will be considered by our SLT and governing body. Some of these issues can be addressed immediately - you might already have noticed some changes. These and other medium or longer term issues will form the basis of this year’s school development plan, which will be agreed with governors and shared with you in October. We’ll return to the parent survey themes later this year to see how far we’ve come.
Also this week, we have an update on our Senior Leadership Team. Our governing body has recently agreed to make a change to the structure of our SLT, so it will now consist of Headteacher, two Deputy Headteachers, SENCo and School Business Manager. This has the same number of roles as the previous SLT but a different structure, including two Deputy Headteachers with responsibility across the whole school. I'm really pleased to say that Mrs Smith will be filling one of these posts, and that this will be in a permanent capacity rather than her previous acting role. This means we have one vacancy for a new Deputy Headteacher; we are currently recruiting into this role for a January 2020 start. As you'll know from last week's bulletin, we already have a new SENCo, Miss Byrne, who is quickly getting up to speed with leading our SEN and AEN provision. Our final SLT member is our School Business Manager, Mrs Finch, who leads on our finances – along with the rest of our SLT, you'll often find her on the playground in the mornings to greet you and answer any queries you may have. Together, we all look forward to working with you through this year and beyond.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
Tempest Photographers will be taking Family and Individual Photographs in the main hall next week, on Thursday 26th September. If you wish to have a family photograph taken that includes pre-school age babies or children then please come to the school between 8.15 am and 9.00 am.
Please let us know in the school office if you prefer that your child does not have their photo taken. Otherwise all children in school will have an individual/sibling group photo.
