Weekly Bulletin:Friday 20th September 2024
Headteacher’s message to parents/carers
Dear Parents/Carers,
Time flies and it’s the end of the third week of term already. Children have been enjoying the fine weather this week and on one of my walks around school at lunchtime, I was delighted to see lots of happy and creative play on the field and in the Glade. My favourite moment was being shown a luxurious ‘ant hotel’ which had been carefully constructed, complete with spa, restaurant and sun-bathing area. I’m sure that the Tunbury ants absolutely loved it!
Other highlights of this week include some great learning in PE, including the first swimming lesson for Year 4 and the start of lessons with our Sports Coaches Mr Whybrow and Miss Payne. Dance lessons for Year 1 yesterday looked like a lot of fun – well done everyone!
In Term 1, I’m lucky enough to be teaching Lilac class every Friday, which is the absolute highlight of my week. I’ve been so impressed children’s fantastic attitudes and wonderful love of learning in every single lesson. Our normal Friday timetable (Maths, Computing, Reading, English, French and PE) takes us from the battlefields of the Norman Conquest to the intricacies of Tag Rugby, via the challenges of French phonemes. This is just a normal day in the life of a Tunbury teacher, but it does remind me that teaching really is the best job in the world.
Looking further ahead, we have now set our dates for New Entrants meetings and tours. If you have a child starting school in September 2025, please come and see us. Also, please share this information with friends/neighbours who might be interested. Thank you.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
Best wishes
Ruth Austin
Headteacher

Free School Meals and Pupil Premium: Could you apply for free school meals for your child? Did you know that the school receives extra funding called pupil premium for all children eligible for free school meals? We use pupil premium funding to improve the overall quality of education that we can offer in school, as well as providing additional resources and support. A benefit of Pupil Premium funding is that this can be used to pay for the cost of your child’s school trips, so you won’t be asked for parental contributions for these events. Currently, local authorities also provide supermarket food vouchers for the school holidays to families with children eligible for free school meals. Further information about the pupil premium is available on our school website: https://www.tunbury.kent.sch.uk/Pupil-Premium/
To check if you are eligible for Free School Meals, please visit www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools/free-school-meals#tab-1.
To apply, please visit www.cloudforedu.org.uk/ofsm/kent/.
Parent Governor: Could you be our new Parent Governor? We have one vacancy for a new Parent Governor. For full information and the nomination form, please refer to the email sent out last week. You’ll also find the letter and nomination form on our school website at Tunbury Primary School - Letters & Forms . The 10-day period for nominations for this valuable role is now open until 3.30 on Thursday next week (26th September).
PSHE Library for parents/carers: We have a collection of books which you can borrow to read with your children to discuss some ‘big’ PSHE topics. These cover death, separation, puberty, human conception and adoption. If you would like to borrow a book, you can sign the book out from the school office. Thank you.
Pupil Leadership: Don’t forget applications are now open for our Pupil Leadership roles, including Subject Ambassadors, Librarians, Diversity Leaders and Eco Warriors. If children would like to apply for any of these roles, they can ask their class teacher for an application form. The deadline for applications is Friday 27th September.
