Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week we have had a focus on Road Safety.  In the darker winter mornings/evenings, the ‘Be Bright Be Seen’ reflective disks can increase your child’s visibility – after handing these out to every Tunbury child on Monday, it’s been great to see them being used.  As well as this, Year 6 children have been completing their Bikeability courses, which includes awareness of road safety both as a pedestrian and cyclist.

In assemblies, we had different Road Safety messages for different age groups.  For children in Years 1-3, our focus was:

  • The road safety code: Stop, Look, Listen, Think and Hold Hands (ask your child to recite this, with the actions!)
  • Safer / less safe places (eg at a zebra crossing / on a corner or curve) to cross the road with an adult

For children in Years 4-6, our focus was:

  • Being aware of possible distractions, which might include mobile phone use, having headphones on, chatting to friends, having hoods up and/or being in a rush
  • Thinking about more independence, in preparation for longer journeys to secondary school

As Road Safety is something we all need to be aware of, please speak with your children about these important messages.  Videos for different age groups are available at Kent Road Safety Club - KCC Road Safety

We do still have a vacancy for a School Crossing Patrol (Lollypop Lady/Man) to work outside school on Tunbury Avenue.  This is a position which is funded by KCC but it has proved extremely difficult to fill.  We just need to find that special someone!  Is there anyone out there who can help us with this?  Whilst there is funding for a “full time” role (ie Monday to Friday, mornings and afternoons), it would be great if we could find someone to do just part of this, on a regular basis.  It’s a great way to contribute to your local community, as well as seeing lots of friendly smiling faces every day.  If you know of anyone who might be interested, please do let us know via email to  Office@tunbury.kent.sch.uk so that we can talk about this role.  Thank you!

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes
