Headteacher’s message to children at home

Hello everyone

This week, we have been thinking about respect. We have written some poems to remind us what respect is - have a read and see what you think:

Aren’t they wonderful? Remember that respect is the glue that sticks relationships together, in your family, with your friends and in our whole school.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes

Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

At Tunbury, we have worked together to create a new vision statement for our school. As this has now been approved by our governing body, we are ready to share it with the whole school community. Our new vision statement is:

Tunbury is a safe, nurturing and inclusive school community where everyone is respected and valued. We inspire our children to be successful, independent life-long learners.

This vision statements sits alongside our three core values: thriving, proactive and solidarity.

We hope that this vision statement sounds and feels familiar to you – it should describe what you already know about our school and be consistent with your child’s experiences as a Tunbury pupil. You will see our vision statement on key school documentation, such as our policies, website and prospectus. We hope that our vision statement will guide Team Tunbury through the years ahead, by helping all stakeholders to understand and be true to our core purpose.

Thank you for your continued support for your child, their learning and our school.

Have a lovely weekend everyone. Please take care and stay safe.

Best wishes

Ruth Austin

Online safety update

Now that we are working online so much more than usual, it is time to double check our online safety at home. Here is a simple six top tips guide to make sure that you doing everything you need to keep your child safe when they are accessing the internet at home.

 Our Learning: Year 2

In Year 2 we have been enjoying our topic Land Ahoy! We have been learning the directions on a compass, just like pirates. We played games to practice them and have made up some rhymes!

In school we have taken our compass direction learning outside and drew compasses on the playground using chalk, we then moved in different ways to the compass points.

Year 2 are working so hard this term, they have been resilient, positive and we are very proud! Thank you for all the support with home learning. From the Year 2 team.

School Fruit: We are pleased to confirm that fruit deliveries have now resumed. Children in KS1 will receive a piece of fruit daily. As we have less children in school at present there may be surplus fruit on some days which will be offered to children in school in KS2.

Covid-19: It is vitally important that nobody with symptoms of Covid-19 should approach or enter the school site. Please be aware of the following government advice:

If you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), get a test as soon as possible. Stay at home until you get the result. The main symptoms of coronavirus are:

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

Most people with coronavirus have at least 1 of these symptoms. If you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus:

  1. Get a test to check if you have coronavirus as soon as possible.
  2. You and anyone you live with should stay at home and not have visitors until you get your test result – only leave your home to have a test.

Anyone in your support bubble should also stay at home if you have been in close contact with them since your symptoms started or during the 48 hours before they started.

If you need to inform us of a positive Covid test result for children who have been attending school, please do so straight away, either by phone (during the working day) or email (in the evenings or weekend) to the school office: 01634 863085 or office@tunbury.kent.sch.uk . In your message, please include the date of symptoms starting, the date of the test and your phone number.

Team Points: Team points are being awarded for children working at home, as well as children working at school. After the first three weeks of term, Hawking have held onto their lead – well done blue team!

Home school agreement for Microsoft Teams: this has now been emailed to all families and is also available on our website at www.tunbury.kent.sch.uk/docs/letters/Home_school_agreement_Microsoft_Teams.pdf

Children’s log-ins to Microsoft 365: Children in Years 5 and 6 now have their own log-ins to Microsoft 365, meaning that they can log into their own Teams accounts and access their Home Learning documents online. On Monday, we will be emailing parents/carers of children in Years 2-4 with their log-in details. Live lessons will continue to look and feel the same through Microsoft Teams, but there are many other benefits to children having their own log-in details. We will guide and support you and your children through this process.

Attendance for children of critical workers: If you would like to request an in-school place from Monday 1st February, please fill in the form at https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/Tunbury1stFeb

This form will close at 8am on Thursday 28th January.

Attainment updates reminder - there are still envelopes in school waiting to be collected: if your child was absent on the last day of term before Christmas and therefore did not bring their attainment update home, you may wish to come to school to collect it.  Please avoid coming to collect during drop-off and home times.  If you wish someone to collect it on your behalf, please email the office prior to them coming to collect. Thank you to everyone who has already come to the school office to collect these updates.
