Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

We had had three school trips over the last couple of weeks, with children loving their out-of-school adventures!

Year 1 spent a Victorian day at Kent life, linked to their Past Times topic.  Our children said:

  • “There was a Victorian school and I didn’t actually like it that much because there was lots of shouting.”
  • “In Victorian times you couldn’t just buy a carpet, you had to make one.”
  • “There wasn’t any TV!”

Year 2 visited Upnor Castle, linked to their Towers and Turrets topic.  Our children said:

  • “I liked the cannons with wheels on them.”
  • “The beds looks so uncomfy as they were just made out of wood, you might get splinters!”
  • “We saw the features of castles which we had already learned about, turrets, battlements and arrow loops, but there wasn’t a moat.”

Year 6 visited the Imperial War Museum in London, linked to their World War 2 topic.  Our children said:

  • “We took our sketchbooks and chose what to draw – I drew a tank.”
  • “We saw a Hurricane and a Spitfire and went into a Morrison shelter and an Anderson shelter.”
  • “It was the exact same thing we’ve learned about in school!”

Children were impeccably behaved on all of these school trips and loved their experiences away from school.  Every year group will have at least one school trip each year, so if your child hasn’t been on their trip yet, this will be planned for the summer term.  The school budget contributes £7,000 per year to educational trips and enrichment days, but thank you to parents/carers for your support in paying the voluntary contributions that make these trips possible for our children.  (As a reminder, we fully fund all class trips for families eligible for the Pupil Premium.)  Also, thank you to our hardworking staff team for planning and leading these adventures, which really bring our in-school learning to life.

Just a reminder for next week – Monday is our TSA non-uniform day and Easter discos.  Details are attached and disco tickets are available at www.pta-events.co.uk/tunbury/

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes

Ruth Austin

After School Clubs: Please be advised on Monday 25th March all after school clubs will be cancelled due to the TSA school disco taking place. For the rest of the week i.e. Tues-Thurs, the current after school clubs will be running as normal. Please note that this will be the last session for these clubs. Details of a new selection of clubs for Term 5 and 6 will be sent out after Easter.

Breakfast and After School Childcare: Junior Adventures Group (JAG) our Breakfast and After School Childcare provider have added a new 2 hour session for their after school bookings, making it cheaper for any parents who would like a shorter childcare window, from the end of school up to 5.00pm. To make a booking and view the details please visit JAG's website via the link below:

Snacks reminder: Please remember that we are a ‘healthy’ school, so any snacks brought in from home to be eaten at break time must be a healthy snack, i.e. fruit or vegetables. Please do not send children in with crisps, sweets or chocolate. Thank you for your support and understanding.

School dinner payments: Our school lunch providers, TCS, (Total Catering Solutions) have requested parents do not use Parent Mail to pay for school lunches as they are still experiencing technical issues with this system.  Please pay for school lunches in cash or cheques payable to TCS Education Catering Ltd. This can be sent to school in a sealed, named envelope via the class teacher. Please be advised that any credit that was on your accounts on the last day of term has been transferred to a paper register.

Miss Elliott London Marathon: Crimson class teacher Miss Elliott is running the London Marathon in April this year to raise money for the mental health charity, Mind.  We’re keen to support her in this, so would like to share her fundraising page with everyone in the Tunbury school community.  Everyone in Team Tunbury wishes her all the very best with both the running and the fundraising! https://2024tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com/pf/madeleine-elliott

Weekly Class Attendance: This is a weekly feature on our bulletin to highlight and celebrate good levels of attendance. We have joint winners for KS1 with 100% attendance, well done to Owls and Orange class. Followed by Sapphire class again with great attendance for KS2 for a second week in a row, well done!
