Weekly Bulletin: Friday 22nd September 2023

Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week, we’re sharing key Diary Dates for you, for the whole academic year.  This includes our Parent Consultation evenings, Autumn Term Open Afternoons, Class Assemblies, Sports Day and our Christmas events including Nativity performances for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.  All of these events are now in the Diary Dates section at the end of this bulletin – please take a look.

We like to plan ahead for events like these, and this is to make it easier for you to come into school to support your children’s education.  Home/school partnership is incredibly important to us – as you’ll know, we’re all part of Team Tunbury and we all work together in the best interests of our fabulous Tunbury children.  Children learn best when their parents/carers and school work closely together…  and at Tunbury, we summarise this in our Home School Agreement .  Although we don’t ask you to sign this agreement every year, we do expect all stakeholders to uphold it while they are a part of our school community.  Please take this opportunity to re-read the Home School Agreement with your child at the start of the new school year.

The TSA (Tunbury School Association) is another important element of our school community.  On Wednesday, the TSA held their AGM to review last year and elect a new committee for the new year.  Last year included plenty of successful highlights, such as funding for our new mosaic and the new gazebo on the school field, as well as extra learning resources and experiences for all of our children.  We also held a range of popular events for families and children – the new after-school discos were a big hit!  A huge thank you to our outgoing TSA co-Chairs, Claire Pryer and Sarah Mingozzi, who have given many years of dedication to the TSA.  A huge welcome to our new TSA Chair, Jenny Soto-Briley, who is stepping into the role.  Jenny has children in Year 2 and Year R, and you can contact her at chair@thetunburyschoolassociation.com if you have any contributions or ideas for the new school year.  Thank you.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes,

Ruth Austin

Subject Ambassadors

We have had an overwhelming response to our subject ambassador vacancies with over 200 completed application forms. All applications are being shortlisted today and invites to interviews will be sent out at the start of next week. It’s lovely to see our children so enthusiastic about leadership roles in the school!

Watch out for our ECO council and Diversity Leader roles launching soon!

Notices

Parent Governor Election: Thank you to our nominees for expressing an interest in becoming a Parent Governor for Tunbury.  As we received four nominations for our two parent governor vacancies, our ballot is now open.  This is being held online, although you may request a paper ballot if you prefer.  To access the ballot, please refer to the email sent out yesterday afternoon to parent/carers.  If you did not receive it, please contact the school office at office@tunbury.kent.sch.uk so that we can send you the details.  The ballot closes at 3.30pm on Thursday 5th October.

TT Rockstars: This week, we have started a “Battle of the Bands” between each class in each year group for Years 2- 6. This weekly competition counts the total number of correct answers for each class. The class with the most correct answers on the day of their Phase Assembly will be awarded a Rock Star Trophy.  Rapid recall of times tables is essential with a secure understanding of mathematics. Regular practice on Times Table Rockstars is an effective way to support this.  Please speak to your class teacher if your child has forgotten their login details.   https://ttrockstars.com/

Weekly Class Attendance: This is a weekly feature on our bulletin to highlight and celebrate good levels of attendance. Well done to Indigo with top marks for 100% attendance for KS2. Followed by Orange with great attendance for KS1, well done!
