Headteacher’s message to parents/carers
Dear Parents/Carers,
End of term already! Time has flown past since Easter, and Tunbury children have certainly been very busy bees.
Lots to celebrate this week, but I’ll start with Tunbury’s Got Talent, hosted in the school hall last night by our TSA. I was blown away by how much hidden talent we have in our school! It was amazing, with so many memorable performances from children from across the school. We had comedy, singing, gymnastics, piano, guitar, poetry and ukulele and everyone was a winner. For a little flavour of the evening, I’m going to borrow (with permission) two jokes from Elvie in
Year 4:
Q: What do you call a man who fell down the stairs? A: Mr Step!
“I’ve got a pen that can write underwater….. (It can write other words too.)”
We even had a teacher performance from the very talented Mr Mills, which was the perfect end to the show and summed up the community feeling we’re proud to create in Team Tunbury.
Looking across the school this week, can I also say a huge ‘well done!’ to Year 6 for successfully taking on the Tiger Troop assault course on Wednesday, Reception for helping your Mums/Dads/visitors make yummy fruit kebabs yesterday afternoon and Year 4 for not getting lost on the way to or from your picnic at Bluebell Hill on Monday. Also, congratulations to all of our participants and award winners in this term’s Tiger Troop course.
Looking beyond school, everyone here would like to send many congratulations to Miss Elliott, who is getting married over half term. Enjoy your special day.
Have a lovely half term break everyone. Remember that Monday 2nd June is an INSET day, so we look forward to seeing children back in school on Tuesday 3rd June.
Best wishes
Ruth Austin

Tunbury parent/carer survey: Last chance for you to complete our survey. It will be closing at 5pm today.
You can access the survey via www.surveymonkey.com/r/TPS2025 .
Please help us to celebrate Team Tunbury’s achievements this academic year. Is there someone or something that has made a big difference to your child, this year? Are there special events which you would like to see us repeat? Your responses help us to review the successes and stand-out moments from this year, as well as identifying priorities for next year.
This year, we have made it even quicker for you to complete the survey – it should only take about 6 minutes of your time. We do want to hear from as many people as possible, so we’re conducting the survey earlier than usual and trying to boost the number of responses we get with a few different reminders.
The survey is for all Tunbury parents/carers. It is anonymous, but if you wish you can add your name or request a call-back from us. Thank you for your ongoing support.
Free School Meals and Pupil Premium: Currently, the local authority is providing Household Support Funding for families with children eligible for free school meals. For the May holiday, families with children eligible for free school meals will receive a £10 voucher per child.
Could you apply for free school meals for your child? Did you know that the school receives extra funding called pupil premium for all children eligible for free school meals? We use pupil premium funding to improve the overall quality of education that we can offer in school, as well as providing additional resources and support. A benefit of Pupil Premium funding is that this can be used to pay for the cost of your child’s school trips, so you won’t be asked for parental contributions for these events.
To check if you are eligible for Free School Meals, please visit www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools/free-school-meals#tab-1. To apply, please visit www.cloudforedu.org.uk/ofsm/kent/
Steam Week 2025 – The Robots Are Coming: Steam week this year is the first week of Term 6. Please read the letter in Parents>Letters and Forms section of our website for further details about the amazing learning opportunities the children will experience. Following the success of our Time Machine exhibition last year we are asking you to work with your children again this year to create your own amazing robots. Please bring these into school on Friday 6th of June to be a part of our robot exhibition. Prizes and certificates for the most creative designs will be awarded by the STEAM subject ambassadors.
Online Safety: We’re sharing Online Safety information, using resources from the National College’s #WakeUpWednesday program. This week’s guide is about violent content online. Please see the Parents>Letters and forms section of our website.
Opal update: After the successful opening of our sandpit, we have now moved on to our digging zone in the corner of the field, which opened this week. We need really some rain to soften the ground, but despite the hard conditions, children have been digging away and finding some treasure!
After half term, the next areas we would like to open are role play and ‘small world’. Thank you for the donations we have already received – they are great! Any more donations would be gratefully received after half term. All donations need to be in good condition (not broken/cracked/sharp). Please see below our role play and small world ‘wishlist’. Thank you so much for your help.
