Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to the summer term!  The sun is shining and we have lots to look forward to!

Thinking of children’s learning first (of course) here are the topics and key questions that your children will be studying this term.

Year R: Super Growing

(Too many key questions to list here!)

Year 1: To Infinity and Beyond

What does it take to become an astronaut?

Year 2: Our Plastic Planet

What could you do to help stop plastic pollution?

Year 3: Anglo Saxons

Where did we come from?

Year 4: Survivors

Could you survive extreme conditions?

Year 5: Tomb Raiders

What historical clues were left behind by the Ancient Egyptians?

Year 6: Shakespeare

What impact has Shakespeare had on modern British culture?

All of these topic areas are underpinned by high-quality books for children to read (our curriculum is anchored in reading).  To take a look at which books are read in each term/topic, you can view our published curriculum on the school website: English_Curriculum_Overview_2024.pdf  We want all of our children to be great readers and enjoy reading!

As you’ll know, in Team Tunbury we always share attainment information with you throughout the year, to keep you informed.  Attainment data reports from the end of Term 4 have been emailed to you this morning.  We can see that many parents have already viewed these – thank you for your support.  If you haven’t received or cannot access your child’s attainment data report, please let us know via the school office, so that we can help.

Within your attainment data report, you’ll also find a summary of your child’s attendance this school year.  Regular attendance is an essential ingredient of a successful school experience, and so it’s wonderful to see so many children (180 pupils) with great attendance (ie 98% plus, blue on our colour-coded attendance charts).

Looking ahead, key dates are in the ‘Diary Dates’ section, including all of our summer term Open Afternoons in each year group.  Children (especially in Year 6) are looking forward to lots of sports opportunities, with netball, football, cricket and athletics tournaments to take part in.  We have school trips for Year R, 3, 4, 5 and 6.  (Year 1 and 2 had trips in the Spring term).  As well as all of this, we can’t wait for our first-ever Tunbury Colour Run organised by our fabulous TSA – details below.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes
