Headteacher’s message to parents/carers
Dear Parents/Carers
It’s that time of year again… time for our annual parent/carer survey. This time last year, we were looking forward to school life without ‘bubbles’ – what a long way we have come since then!
Please complete our survey to help us celebrate our achievements, as well as identifying priorities for next academic year. The survey should take about 10 minutes to complete. It is open now at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/Tunburyparents2022 or via this QR code:
As well as our ‘general’ questions, in this year’s survey we are asking you to tell us
· about your child’s mental health and well-being this year
· what you think about the Team Tunbury community events that we have reinstated this year (eg class assemblies, open afternoon, family picnic and TSA events), along with suggestions for future events
· whether you prefer online or face-to-face appointments for our parent consultations next year
Last year, we only received 216 responses to the parent/carer survey. The results did still help us to improve, for example by enabling us to change our approach to homework (eg homework books/paper, not sole use of Microsoft Teams) and helping us to improve information for parents on what children learn at school (eg termly topic newsletters, information on our website). However, we would really like to receive more responses this year to make sure that views are representative of the whole school community. Thank you in advance for taking the time to fill in the survey – Tunbury is your school, so please be proactive and share your views.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
Best wishes
Ruth Austin
Headteacher
The Tunbury Field Mystery!
Yesterday, we came into school to find a car abandoned on the field and a tent pitched up! All of the year groups took it in turns to go onto the field and investigate for us. They found many clues including: a saddle, a rugby ball and a map (very random)! The children then went back into class and had very animated discussions about who it all belonged to and why it was all there. They then completed a piece of writing detailing all that they found and their theories. We do hope they came home and told you all about it.
This was all in order for Tunbury Primary school to engage in National Writing Day. A big thank you to Mrs Harding, Mrs Fitzgerald and Mrs Smith for planning the day and Miss Adams and Mrs Palmer for helping to set the scene. It was fantastic to see the children so engrossed, talking about it all day and then eager to write :)
Our Learning: Year 1
Our topic this term is ‘Into the Deep’ and we have been looking at the book ‘Sharing a Shell’ by Julia Donaldson. We have been writing descriptions about sea creatures and writing an alternative ending for the story.
In maths we have been learning about money. We have been recognising the value of coins and notes and we have then used this knowledge to help us make amounts. We have also added amounts together to find totals.
In our topic we have been finding out about the oceans of world. We have been labelling a map with the oceans and we also learnt a song to help us remember where the oceans are. We have been busy practicing for sports day in our PE lessons!
We are really enjoying all our learning and as well as getting ready to move to year 2.
