Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you to the family members who were able to join us for our Year 3 and Year R Open Afternoons this week, where we made fruit kebabs in Reception and Ango-Saxon broaches in Year 3.  All of these creative activities were wonderful to see, but the best part was seeing family members get so involved in children’s learning.

Did you know that Tunbury’s got Talent?  Lots of talent!  Last night, thanks to the hard work of our TSA, we showcased a wonderful evening of talent in our school hall, with children from across the school sharing their skills.  This was a fabulous celebration, celebrating children’s skills and talents in gymnastics, comedy, dancing, piano playing, signing, ventriloquism, drumming and poetry reading.  Children showed so much confidence and everyone was super proud of each and every one of them.  Children were all awarded a certificate and medal, and we hope that they’ll remember their ‘Tunbury’s got Talent’ performances for many years to come.

Also yesterday, two Tunbury netball teams played in matches against two teams from Wouldham Primary School.  Children played so well, with showing good passing and movement, as well as bags of enthusiasm and teamwork skills.  On the top playground, our Tunbury team won both matches, with huge scores of 7-2 and 6-0.  On the lower playground, our Tunbury team drew the first match 3-3 but won the second 3-2, with a goal in the final seconds.  Congratulations to all of our netballers – we are so proud of you.

Today, children have enjoyed the first of our weekly summer term ‘whole-school break’ sessions, where all children from Reception to Year 6 share their breaktime together on the school field.  Our Year 6 children look after their Reception buddies and everyone else also plays together, with lots of excitement and daisy-chain-making!

Have a lovely half term break everyone.  Just a reminder that Monday 3rd June is an INSET day, so we look forward to seeing our children back in school on Tuesday 4th June.

Best wishes

Our Learning Year 5

This week in Year 5, we have been busy with creative writing inspired by our “Tomb Raiders” topic. We have combined our learning about life in Ancient Egypt with our own school trip to Maidstone Museum to write our very own portal stories…Our writing has certainly come a long way this year!

Our trip to Maidstone Museum was every bit as exciting as our stories. We had the opportunity to explore a range of fascinating exhibits including an Ancient Egyptian mummy! We took time to sketch some of favourite artefacts too.

Art this term has been a tremendous success. We have decorated and evaluated our “Egyptian Death Masks” using papier-mâché and painting skills. We are in the process of sculpting our Egyptian statues and Canopic jars- do you recognise any of the references to Egyptian mythology and culture in the examples below?

Finally, each class have been looking after their own caterpillars this term. We are excited to announce that some have begun to emerge from their chrysalides to become beautiful painted lady butterflies and we look forward to releasing them on Friday.
