Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

Yesterday evening we held the AGM for our TSA (Tunbury School Association) in the school hall.  Even with reduced fundraising events last year, we still managed to arrange a massive £7000 in 2020/21, with projects such as the Christmas cards and ‘50 Years of Tunbury’ tea towels proving really successful.  We are so grateful for this dedication and support – a huge thank you to Sarah Mingozzi (our TSA chair) as well as everyone on the TSA team.  Sarah is continuing as co-chair this year alongside Claire Pryer, so please talk to them on the playground or via chair@thetunburyschoolassociation.com if you have any ideas, offers of help or suggestions.

We are looking forward to re-starting a more normal program of fundraising and community events for the TSA this year.  Our biggest annual event is our Fireworks Extravaganza, which is back this year on Sunday 7th November.  Please join us in the school grounds for lots of fun, including our amazing fireworks display.  Further details and ticket sales will be available soon, so we’ll keep you posted.

TSA fundraising supports our children with resources, experiences and ‘extras’.  Recently, TSA support has funded our new Tunbury Art Gallery (which you will be able to see at Open Afternoons), the prizes for our summer reading challenge and new mural paintings around the school, which our artist Andy will be starting on next week.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes

Ruth Austin

Our Learning: Year 2

In Year 2, we have been enjoying our topic Inside the Toy Box! We have been learning about the history of toys and how the materials used for them have changed over time. In D.T., we designed and made a house for a toy bear out of limited materials. In Science we continued to explore the properties of a range of materials and their everyday uses.

In Maths, we have been learning about place value of two-digit numbers. We have been looking carefully at tens and ones; comparing totals using greater than, less than and equal to symbols and practicing counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.  We are very impressed with all the learning so far.

Year 2 have made an excellent start to the year and are working very hard. They have been resilient, positive and we are very proud! Thank you for all the support with reading and homework.

From the Year 2 team
Mrs Dean, Miss Morgan, Miss Hoile and Mrs O’Brien

School entry reminder, 8.40-8.50: Both gates (side gate and playground gate) are open from 8.40-8.50 each morning.  If you arrive after this time, you will need to accompany your children to the main school office.  Thank you.

Team Points: Here are the Team Points totals at the end of this week.  Attenborough have continued their strong start to the new year – great work green team!

After-school extra-curricular clubs: We plan to restart extra-curricular clubs after October half term.  Further details to follow.

New IT resources and IT technician: We have been investing in our IT resources and systems in school, with a new server, wi-fi network and computers for our IT suite all installed over the summer holidays.  To keep everything running smoothly we now have a full-time IT technician, Ian Sanders - we are very pleased to welcome him to Team Tunbury.  Children met Mr Sanders in assembly today and will also see him during their computing lessons or around the school.

Message from Kent Admissions about the Kent Test results: It has come to our attention that an earlier version of the 2022 Secondary Admissions scheme document stated the Kent Test decision day as being 14 October 2021. The correct date for the release of Kent Test results is Thursday 21 October 2021. Here is the updated version of the 2022 Secondary Admissions scheme that is currently on our website at https://www.kent.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0008/117836/Secondary-determined-scheme-for-2022-23.pdf. The Kent Test decision date is the only discrepancy.

Covid-19: Please stay alert - it is essential that we all remain vigilant for Covid symptoms. As before, if you or your children are experiencing Covid symptoms, do not approach or enter the school site.  Continue to follow the current Covid guidance – you can check this at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/
