Headteacher’s message to parents/carers
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back for the start of the summer term. It’s fabulous to have children back in school ready for the new term, full of beans and ready to go!
You may have heard about our new sandpit – this is what 40 tonnes of sand looks like! The sandpit is one of our first new ‘zones’ for play during lunchtimes, as part of the OPAL project. This week, children have had the opportunity to play in the sandpit with their classes, before it opens at lunchtimes from Monday onwards.
At the start of term, just a reminder on uniform, as this is important. School shoes should be black (not trainers or beach sandals). Earrings should be small, plain, round studs. Class teachers and teaching assistants will remind children or speak with you if this is needed, and black school plimsolls will be provided (in school time) for children who are wearing trainers to school next week.
At Tunbury, we endeavour to provide you with up-to-date information on your child’s learning, so that you are always kept informed. Today, you’ll be receiving the attainment update from the end of last term, as well as the Topic Newsletter for this term. Your support is so valuable for children’s learning, so please do talk to them about their learning. As I’ve said before, everything you do to show interest/support for your child’s education is like a special magical boost, that only you can give! Whether you help your child with their number bonds or times tables, support key messages from class teachers or regularly hear your children read, thank you. We really do appreciate your support (and more importantly, so does your child).
Finally, let me tell you about a couple of highlights from this week…. Yesterday, our Netball team took part in the Mini Youth Games tournament at Medway Park. We are super proud of how well they did! A full report will be included in next week’s bulletin. Today, children in Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 are enjoying a French theatre event to inspire their learning of the French language. Très bien!
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
Best wishes
Ruth Austin

Notices
First Aid: A reminder that our reviewed first aid procedures have started this week.
We are now using wristbands alongside the yellow injury letter, to make certain that you are aware of the injury when children come home after school. If a child receives first aid for an injury to the head (this includes face and teeth), or requires first aid in an area that is hidden by clothing, you will receive a yellow letter to inform you. Our yellow injury letter has been updated to include guidance on when to seek medical advice relating to concussion. To further highlight that a child should have an injury letter, they will also come home wearing a green first aid wristband.
Children will not have a wristband or yellow letter if first aid has been provided for an injury that is not to the head or in an area covered by clothing. Also, parents may be informed of first aid by phone, at the time of the incident, at the discretion of the first aider. This is unchanged from our current practice.
A list of our trained first aiders can be found in Appendix A of our Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions Policy (on the Policies page of the school website).
Online Safety: We’re sharing Online Safety information, using resources from the National College’s #WakeUpWednesday program. This week’s guide is on Making Friends Online. Please see the Parents > letters and forms section on our website.
Term 5 Topic Newsletters: what will my child be learning this term? These newsletters will be emailed home today and are also available on the Year Groups pages of the school website at Tunbury Primary School - Year groups .
Parent Data Information Reports: Data information reports containing details about your child’s spring term assessments will be sent out via email today. Emails will be sent to the email addresses we hold for you. If you do not receive your report, please contact the school office so that we can update our email addresses.
Term 5 and 6 Extra-curricular clubs: There are still spaces available in the following clubs; Cricket Club for KS1 and KS2, Girls Football Club, Korfball Club, Netball Club and Ukulele Club. If you would like to book your child into one of these clubs, please contact the school office.
Road Crossing Patrol: As mentioned in our previous Weekly Bulletins, we are looking for a School Crossing Patrol (SCP) to work on Tunbury Avenue. Sadly to date, zero applications have been received for this position. You could be our local hero, helping to keep our families safe on their journeys to and from school. If you or anyone you know may be interested in this position, please apply for the position online using the following link: https://recruitmenthub.solutions/members/modules/job/detail.php?record=12643
Weekly Class Attendance: This is a weekly feature on our bulletin to highlight and celebrate good levels of attendance. In KS1 this week, we had three classes who managed 100% attendance. Fantastic work from Red, Yellow and Pink Class! Ruby Class are our KS2 with a brilliant 100% attendance. Well done everyone and keep up the good work!
