Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

We held the third of our New Entrants tours for prospective parents this week, with 25 families visiting the school on Tuesday.  A huge thank you to our marvellous Year 5 children for acting as tour guides, showing great maturity and pride in themselves and their school.  Many of our visitors commented on their politeness and positivity, which was lovely to hear.  At Tunbury we are extremely proud of all of our children but it’s always nice to receive compliments from visitors, confirming just how special they are!

If you are applying for a school place for a new Reception child for September 2022, you can submit your application now.  Remember to apply to your home local authority, so Kent residents apply at www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools/school-places and Medway residents apply at www.medway.gov.uk/admissions

Our final New Entrants tour is scheduled for Thursday 2nd December at 2pm, so please contact the school office to book onto this tour if you would like to do so.

Also this week, I have been visiting classrooms in our middle phase (Years 2, 3 and 4) to award Golden Team Points.  Golden Team Points are very rare indeed and worth an enormous 50 team points each!  They are awarded for excellent attitude to learning and progress across the term, with children chosen by their class teachers.  I award the Golden Team Point and look at children’s achievements at the same time - this week, I heard children read and looked at some brilliant work in Maths and English books.  Well done!

Finally, thank you for your contributions to Children in Need last week.  Our Team Tunbury Total was £718, exceeding our £500 target!  Great work everyone and thank you for your support.

Have a lovely weekend.  Please take care of yourselves and your families.

Best wishes

Ruth Austin

Return of the SEND parent forum! Thursday 2nd December at 2pm in the Sunshine Room.

We will be re-starting our SEND parent forums this term.  The first will take place at 2pm in the Sunshine room until 2.45pm.  Tea and Coffee will be available and it is an opportunity to discuss SEND priorities and concerns with parents and carers.  Please arrive by 1.55pm via the school office.  The meeting is open to all parents / carers in the Tunbury Primary School community.

We will be holding three forums a year.  The next SEND parent forums will take place in terms 4 and 6.

Playground gate at morning drop-off:  currently the parish council have lent us a key to open their gate that gives them access to the nearby park in the mornings to help with the social distancing of parents/carers and children.  The parish council requested the key back in September but kindly let us continue to use it until this Christmas.  Therefore, at the end of this term we will have to return the key and will no longer be opening the large gate.  In preparation for this, please can parents/carers remember to use the whole of the 10 minute drop-off period as well as saying goodbye to your children and handing them all their belongings before approaching the playground gate, then please move to one side to wave goodbye.  Blocking the gates really can cause congestion so we ask that you are all mindful of this.  Thank you.

Covid-19: Please stay alert to possible Covid symptoms, get a test promptly if you or your child experience symptoms and follow all NHS guidance.  School staff are taking twice weekly Covid tests and we would encourage other adults and secondary school pupils in our community to do the same.

If you have Covid cases in your household, our local Health Protection Team’s advice is for all other members of the household (including other children who are still attending school) to take a daily lateral flow test so that any transmission of Covid is detected as soon as possible.

Please continue to follow the current Covid guidance – you can check this at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

Team Points: The points for this week are as follows. Rowling have overtaken Holmes to take the lead for the first time this term – well done!
