Tunbury Primary

Weekly Bulletin: Friday 27th March 2026

Solidarity week

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week, it is Solidarity Week in school.

As you’ll know, at Tunbury Primary School (TPS), our three school values are Thriving, Proactive and Solidarity (TPS).

We have the school value of Solidarity because at Team Tunbury, it is our aim to provide a unifying spirit that leads to life-long friendships, teamwork and loyalty, which embraces cultural and religious differences.

To explain this further: Unity is an integral part of our journey at Tunbury.  We nurture individuality and recognise the importance of co-operation and respectful communication as life skills for the future.

But what does this actually mean for children?

  • We are Team Tunbury
  • We are part of our class, year group and house teams
  • We celebrate special events as a whole school (eg sports day and charity days)
  • We learn about difference and celebrate individuality
  • We are kind and respectful
  • We help and support each other
  • We are proud of our school

This week in Team Tunbury, children in every class have been taking extra care to show the school value of Solidarity.  Can your child explain what Solidarity is?  (Hint: to do this, they might show you the sign for Solidarity and tell you about it.)

Congratulations to our irock bands for their wonderful concert yesterday morning.  Mrs Bourner reports that our bands are making fabulous progress with their musical skills and knowledge through these classes.  At yesterday’s concert, there were performances of Count On Me, Azizam and Green Green Grass – well done everyone!  If your child would like to join an irock band you can sign them up at: Enrol | iRock Rock and Pop Band Lessons

Thank you to everyone (both staff and parents) who helped at our TSA school discos yesterday, which were lots of fun as usual.  Our TSA offer such a great level of support to the school, both financially (eg for the OPAL program) and in creating fun events for children to enjoy.  We’re excited about the TSA Colour Run event taking place in May – this is new to Tunbury but we’ve heard it’s really popular at other schools, so we’re looking forward to trying it!  More details to follow after Easter.

Have a lovely weekend everyone. Just a reminder that our last day of term is next Thursday, as next Friday is already the start of the Easter bank holiday weekend.

Best wishes

School Lunches: We hope that your children are enjoying their lunches provided by our new caterer, Peacock.  Children are loving the improved portion sizes and the new menu, with All Day Breakfast being a new favourite.  With effect from 1st April they have needed to increase the price of the school meals to £2.75.  School lunches can be ordered and paid for via the SchoolGateway app. Further details, including the menus, are on our website: https://www.tunbury.kent.sch.uk/Parents/School-Meals/

As advised to parents yesterday there will be change to next week’s menu – Cod fishfingers/cheese and onion quiche will be served on Thursday instead of Friday.

Please note that after the Easter break the published menu will start with Week 2. There will be a change to the menu on Thursday 23rd April with a special St George’s Day theme, which can be booked and paid for in the usual way.

Free School Meals: At present children in KS1 i.e. Year R – Year 2 receive free school meals provided by the government – this is called Universal Free School Meals. Even if your child receives universal free school meals, it's important to register for income-based free school meals if you're eligible. If you receive certain benefits, registering for free school meals allows school to receive additional funding to support children’s learning. This extra funding is called Pupil Premium. We use Pupil Premium funding to improve the overall quality of education that we can offer in school, as well as providing additional resources and support. A benefit of Pupil Premium funding is that this can be used to pay for the cost of your child’s school trips, so you won’t be asked for parental contributions for these events.

Could you apply for free school meals for your child?
To check if you are eligible for Free School Meals, please visit www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools/free-school-meals#tab-1.
To apply, please visit www.cloudforedu.org.uk/ofsm/kent/.

After School Clubs: Next week is the final week for this series of clubs.  Details of the new clubs for Term 5 and 6 will be sent out to parents as soon possible at the start of the new term.
