Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

Today, we are having a mathemagical day, for NSPCC Number Day!  As well as lots of Maths fun in class, children and staff are ‘dressed up for digits’, with so many creative outfits involving numbers, shapes, home-made t-shirts, number hats and more!  Great work Team Tunbury.

In order to support the NSPCC, we are asking for a voluntary donation of £2 for Number Day.  Please make your donations directly to the NSPCC website: Donate to Charity Online/Give to NSPCC today/NSPCC  If you would like further information on why your donation is important to support the NSPCC’s work in keeping children safe, please take a look at this video, which children watched in assembly this morning: NSPCC Number Day Introduction Film (youtube.com)

As well as Number Day, it’s been a busy week in school, with a number of different special events taking place.  Year 1 met some exotic animals on Wednesday morning, with our visitors including Lady Gaga the guinea pig, Humphrey the bearded dragon, Harry the royal python and Gloria the chinchilla.  Year 2 all became Junior Pirates for the day yesterday, with a lot of fun, pirate learning and even some walking the plank!  Also yesterday, Year 3 became chocolate-makers and made their own chocolate bars, using their very own recipes.  Strawberry and lychee chocolate, anyone?  We love to bring learning to life through memorable events like this, so thank you for your support in helping children throw themselves into these opportunities.

Our new Facebook page is the perfect place to share photos from these special events already happening in school.  You’ll remember that we consulted with parents/carers in the Autumn term regarding social media, with Facebook being the preferred option.  The official Tunbury Primary Facebook page has now been created and we have begun to add some photos to it at: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61555687503707

We would like be able to add more photos, so that we can update our Facebook page as often and as widely as possible.  Thank you to those parents that have already completed the online consent form. If you would like us to be able to share photos of your child via Facebook, please use this link to update your image consent: https://forms.office.com/e/XGMViX1AYMM

Thank you.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Ruth Austin

Our Learning Year 1

This term we have been learning about The Tiger Who Came to Tea by Judith Kerr. We made sandwiches and pizza for Sophie’s family because the tiger had eaten all their food!

The children had a great time planning, designing, making and eating their creations.

In maths we have been learning how to double by adding the same number together, for example double 2 is 4. We have used different mathematical equipment to help us this week including numicon and 10 frames.

We had the pleasure of meeting a variety of animals as part of our science learning. We were visited by the people from Our Amazing Animal World, where we were able to meet a selection of animals which allowed us to demonstrate our knowledge of animal classifications. We enjoyed saying hello to Henry the python and even got to hold him! Annabelle said “its skin is smooth and soft.”

We have also learnt how to identify human and physical features in our environment. An example of a physical feature is a cliff and an example of a human feature is our school!

Number Day reminder: Times tables are important! Please encourage your child to visit https://ttrockstars.com/ this weekend.  To help children learn and remember their times tables, a ‘little and often’ approach is recommended, so just 3 minutes practice is enough to make a difference.  The National Curriculum expectation is that all children should know their times tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4, but we know that children need regular practice to maintain recall of their tables, right up to (and beyond) the end of Year 6.  If you are missing your child’s TT Rockstars login details, please ask their class teacher.

Weekly Class Attendance: This is a weekly feature on our bulletin to highlight and celebrate good levels of attendance. Well done to Sapphire Class who have taken top place this week for KS2. Followed by Lavender Class with great attendance again for KS1, well done!

Team Points: Our Team Points total is as follows…. Congratulations to Attenborough taking the lead this week, with one week to go until half term.
