Headteacher’s message to parents/carers
Dear Parents/Carers,
This week, I want to highlight the importance of good school attendance, thinking specifically of term-time holidays and absence due to illness.
At Tunbury, we do not authorise term-time holidays and we do refer for Penalty Notices for unauthorised absence of 10 sessions (5 days) or more. For complete clarity and advance notice, we need to remind you that if you do choose to take a term-time holiday, it will not be authorised and a referral will be made for a Penalty Notice.
Absence due to illness can be more difficult for us to navigate as parents/carers. If you are unsure whether you should be sending your child into school, please look at the NHS advice Is my child too ill for school? - NHS (www.nhs.uk) . This gives us simple guidance we can follow, for common illnesses like coughs or colds, as well as specific illnesses such as chicken pox or impetigo. We also want to mention that children at Tunbury do benefit from warm and caring relationships with their teachers and TAs, so please be reassured that if your child is “a little under the weather”, we will look after them!
Thank you for your support with attendance – while children are at primary school, they do need you to help them attend school regularly and on time, which in turn helps them with wellbeing, friendships and academic attainment.
Have a lovely long weekend everyone.
Best wishes
Ruth Austin
Headteacher
Our Learning: Year 3
This term in Year 3 we have started learning about the Anglo-Saxons. We have read Beowulf in our reading lessons which the children enjoyed! Especially when it came to writing their book reviews and creating their front covers. In science we have been learning the names of different bones in our body and how joints and muscles help us to move about. We had some amazing Anglo-Saxon artefacts turn up at school which we have enjoyed researching, and we will be putting together all our findings to create a fact file to go alongside the artefacts. We will be sharing these with our history lead and History ambassador.
Notices
Neurodivergent Parent Carer Support Group: Space 2 Be Me are very excited to let you know about a new support service they are launching specifically for neurodivergent parents and carers. No diagnosis is required, parents/carers who are just starting to explore if they are neurodivergent are welcome. This will be an environment for parents to talk about the challenges of parenting, managing their own needs and to make connections with others.
The first meeting will take place on Wednesday 22nd May 10:30 – 12:00 at the Howard de Walden Centre, Bluett Street Maidstone, ME14 2UG, however they know that there will be many people out there that may be interested who cannot attend this session. Therefore, they have set up a dedicated email address ndparent@space2beme.org.uk and would invite anyone interested in this service to email in and join a mailing list. This will help guide them on how to grow this service moving forward and work out where the demand is.
School dinner payments: Please continue to pay for school lunches in cash or cheques payable to TCS Education Catering Ltd. This can be sent to school in a sealed, named envelope via the school office.
Weekly Class Attendance: This is a weekly feature on our bulletin to highlight and celebrate good levels of attendance. This week our KS1 winners are Pink Class with a fantastic 99.45% attendance. Followed by our KS2 winners, Sapphire class. Well done to both classes!
