Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been so wonderful to have children back into school this week, with smiling faces all around our school.  I would like to extend a warm Tunbury welcome to our new Reception children, parents and carers, who have had their very first days at school this week – exciting times!

Children have settled well back into the routines of school, although the return to a more ‘normal’ school experience means that there are a great many new routines to get used to.  For example, older children are now able to return to the hall for lunchtime and we will begin to gather together for school assemblies from next week.  We are supporting children in getting used to these changes, while looking forward these and other opportunities widening children’s horizons from the limitations of last year.

Today, Year 4 children are enjoying a special Roman day, involving artwork on Roman mosaics and a go at Roman football, among other things!  Thank you for your support with children’s outfits – they do look fantastic.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes

Ruth Austin

Headteacher

Notices
Morning drop-off: Thank you for making this morning’s drop-off period run more smoothly.  Children in Years 1-6 are now confident to walk to class from either gate - this is important as it enables us to encourage more of you to use the side gate.  This morning, the side gate was busy from roughly 8.40-8.43, but then reasonably quiet until 8.50, leaving plenty of space for more families.  At the playground gate, please could we again remind you not to stand and wait in the car park, as this is not a safe space for your children.

Afternoon pick-up: We will alter the lining up procedure for Pink and Orange class today, as we are aware that this didn’t work well yesterday.  In KS2, can we remind you to wait for your teacher to dismiss your child to you individually.  Class teachers have lots of new faces to remember – they are learning to recognise their new parents/carers for their new classes, which should eventually make the process much quicker!

Meet the team: These year group meetings for Year 1-6 are next week - please join us to meet the key staff who will be working with your children this year. The meetings are online via Teams and the dates are in the ‘Dates for your Diary’ section at the bottom of this bulletin.   A link to join the online Teams meetings will be emailed to parents next week.

Year R parents’ consultation meetings: Parents of our new children in Year R will have an opportunity to meet with teachers during the afternoons next week. An email has been sent with details of how to book a slot via School Interviews.

Swimming: Lessons will start week beginning 13th September for Ruby class and children in Year 5 and 6 who previously missed their Year 4 swimming slots because of Covid disruption (Starting with Emerald and Magenta classes). More information will be sent to parents next week.

Energy Kidz: Our on-site breakfast and after-school club continues to operate and has now moved back into the small hall, where children can gather and play together. Details can be found on our website https://www.tunbury.kent.sch.uk/Parents/Breakfast-and-afterschool-clubs/

Site Manager vacancy: We are re-advertising our Site Manager vacancy today as we have found it difficult to recruit to this position so far.  This is a fantastic job for the right person, so if you know anyone who might be suitable for this role, then please pass on this advert:
https://www.kent-teach.com/Recruitment/Vacancy/VacancyDetails.aspx?VacancyId=90849

School lunches: We are continuing with the present Summer Menu detailed on our website (Week 2 from Monday 6th September) https://www.tunbury.kent.sch.uk/Parents/School-Meals/  The daily cost of a school meal is £2.20. Parents can pay by cash, cheque or via the Parent Mail online payment system. Currently, all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to Universal Free School Meals.

Unfortunately the school kitchen is experiencing some delivery disruption, similar to KFC and Nandos! As a result there may be some menu changes. We will endeavour to let you know menu changes in advance where possible.

Covid-19: It is essential that we all remain vigilant for Covid symptoms. As before, if you or your children are experiencing Covid symptoms, do not approach or enter the school site.  Continue to follow the current Covid guidance – you can check this at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/
