Headteacher’s message to parents/carers
Dear Parents/Carers,
Now we’ve reached December and Advent, this week has included the start of our Team Tunbury Advent Kindness Calendar and our Christmas church services.
For our whole-school Advent Calendar, children have suggested a special kindness message for each school day in December. These are suggestions like paying someone a compliment or including someone new in playtime games. Today’s message, suggested by Indigo class, is to try to help around the house this weekend, so we thought we should share this one with you!
Yesterday, we visited our next-door-neighbour, Walderslade Baptist Church, for our Christmas services. Entering the church is always a special moment, as it’s dark, quiet and candle-lit, so children definitely feel the difference from our school hall. Thank you to Rev Roe for leading our services for us with such kindness and warmth, bringing the special message of Christmas to our Tunbury children.
As well as all of this, we’ve also had our very popular TSA Christmas Present Room, so thank you to our TSA volunteers for making this such a success. Children always love being able to select a special present which is a surprise for you at home, so we hope you like them.
Although this week’s message is almost entirely Christmas related, I can assure you that children are still working hard in all of their normal lessons. With still two weeks to go until the end of term, our focus does remain on helping children to do their very best in their Maths, English, Reading, History, Computing, PE, RE, DT, Geography, Science, Art, French (for KS2), Music and PSHE lessons, as well as special events like Space Day (for Year 5). Alongside this, teachers and teaching assistants have also been working together to support gaps created by staff illness. After a peak of 6 teachers being absent on Monday, it has been a continuing challenge throughout the week, so I would like to save my biggest thank you to everyone in the Team Tunbury staff team for their hard work and dedication. You really do make it all possible!
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
Best wishes
Ruth Austin

There will be no after school clubs on the last week of term i.e. week starting 15th December. Look out for details of new clubs starting in Term 3 after the Christmas holidays.
Class Christmas Parties: In the last week of term, each class will have a class Christmas party (see ‘Dates for your Diary’ below). Please provide some snacks in a named container for your child to have at the party. As we are a ‘No nuts school’, we ask that you refrain from sending in food items containing nuts. Children can come in school in their party clothes on the day of their party.
Pupil Leadership: We have now completed our Pupil Leadership appointments for this academic year. We received 235 applications for a variety of different roles this year and we would like to congratulate all children who applied and went through the interview process.
This week, we would like to celebrate our Diversity, who are already doing a fabulous job with support from Mrs Bourner!
