Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

Please join us in school on Sunday for the return of our annual TSA Fireworks Spectacular! Gates open at 4.15pm and the fireworks display is at 6.00pm. Please buy your tickets in advance (they are not sold on the gate) via the following link:
www.pta-events.co.uk/tunbury/#.YYO6dGDP2Uk  The weather forecast is looking good and over 1,000 tickets have already been sold.  On the school playgrounds and field we’ll have refreshments, fairground stalls, live music, bungee trampolines and lots of fun leading up to the firework display itself.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes

Ruth Austin

Our Learning: Year 1

This week year 1 have been busy learning about Guy Fawkes and the Gun powder plot. We have been writing about what happened and we also created beautiful firework pictures using straws and glitter.

We have also been learning about bonfire safety and how to keep safe when we go to watch firework displays.

In maths we have been completing part whole models and using them to write addition number sentences.

As part of outdoor learning day we enjoyed completing our phonics activities outside. We practised writing the tricky word ‘like’ on the playground using chalk.

We are really enjoying our learning in Year 1!

Fantastic FRED Experience

On Monday, all children from Reception to Year 6 watched a special performance in the school hall of ‘Fantastic Fred’, which is a NHS-funded programme to support children’s mental health.  Fantastic Fred was an extremely enjoyable and beneficial experience for all pupils.  The key message was the importance of well-being and mental health which was given to the children in an engaging show with many opportunities for discussion and questions.

FRED stands for Food, Rest, Exercise and Devices; each of these sections was explained in detail of how they are vital to ensure good mental health.  Children brought home a leaflet to tell you more about it and they also should be able to explain FRED to you.  If you’d like to find out more about this experience and the importance of the FRED message, please use the following link to watch a short video to support your children’s learning at home www.thefantasticfredexperience.com/for-parents-guardians.

Also, please share this information with friends or neighbours who may have a child starting school this year.

Topic newsletters: In order to keep you informed about your child’s learning the topic newsletters for each year group will be emailed to parents today. These are also published on our website - https://www.tunbury.kent.sch.uk/Reception/

Team Points: After Attenborough’s win last term, we have reset out points totals to zero for the start of the new term. We’ll share our first points total for the new term next week.

Parent consultation meetings: Thank you to all the parents/carers who joined us for parent consultation meetings this week, either in school (on Tuesday) or online (on Thursday).  If you did not have a consultation with your child’s class teacher, please email the school office (office@tunbury.kent.sch.uk) and we will endeavour to arrange a suitable date/time for this in the next 2 weeks.

Bikeability: Congratulations to the Year 6 children who successfully completed their Bikeability badge this week.  Our KCC Bikeability instructors have been in school all week and this has been a positive experience for our children.

Remembrance Day: This falls on Sunday 14th November 2021. It is a national opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life. To mark Remembrance Day our School Councillors will be selling poppies in school today and next week during lunchtimes.

School photos: Tempest photographers will be in school on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th November, for individual and sibling group photos of all children in school.  Sorry - we are not able to facilitate pre-school sibling groups this year.

All children will have an individual photo taken, unless you tell us otherwise. Tempest will also be able to take photos of sibling groups of in-school children. However, if you do not require a sibling group photo, please send an email to the school office.

Flu Immunisation Programme Reminder: Please see the letter published on our website: www.tunbury.kent.sch.uk/Parents/Letters-Forms/

The immunisation team has informed us that a few parents have not yet completed a FLU consent form. This needs to be completed before the cut-off date which is 10/11/2021, 3 working days before our school’s immunisation session. NHS cannot accept late consents or consents on the day of vaccination.

Covid-19: Please stay alert to possible Covid symptoms, get a test promptly if you or your child experience symptoms and follow all NHS guidance.  School staff are taking twice weekly Covid tests and we would encourage other adults and secondary school pupils in our community to do the same.  Please continue to follow the current Covid guidance – you can check this at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/
