Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Term 6!

This term has started with a brilliant Robot themed STEAM week, which all of our children and staff have enjoyed.  Children of all ages have been really inspired by their learning, showing creativity, curiosity and communication skills in abundance.  Some of my favourite STEAM week things have included:

  •  Reception working together to design and create their own robots in class – children thought carefully about what they wanted to achieve and which special job their robot could undertake
  •  Year 3 creating working robotic arms and claws – this was a challenging task which children achieved successfully, showing great residence and problem-solving skills
  •  Year 6 making magnetic games for their robots to play – I particularly loved the magnetic table football with coins as defenders to block the robot’s path

As well as in our in-school work, big thanks to you at home for supporting children with their Robot home-learning projects.  As ever, we are so impressed by the range of different ideas children have come up with and the designing and making skills they have used to make these ideas a reality.  I’ve just been into the hall to see our STEAM week ‘Robot Exhibition’ and it is truly amazing!  All children will visit the exhibition today.  I’ve taken these photos to show you a glimpse of it, but please do take a look when you come to collect your children at home time today.

A huge thank you to Mr Taylor and the STEAM subject leaders (Teachers leading Science, Computing, DT, Art and Maths) and STEAM subject ambassadors (Pupil Leaders for these subjects) for making STEAM week such a success.  There will be a full summary of STEAM week in next week’s bulletin, when we’ve had time to complete our 3D printing and some other projects to share with you.  Also, please look out for a Facebook post later today with lots more photos from our week.

Finally, I’d just like to say congratulations to our Football team for a successful tournament at the Mini Youth Games yesterday.  We’ll hear all the details of their day in next week’s bulletin.

Also this week, for parents/carers in Year 5, please ask your children about the partridge eggs which have been hatching in class yesterday and today.  Children have been transfixed!

For parents/carers in Reception, please ask your child about the butterflies which they have seen emerging from their chrysalises, ready to be released in Forest School today.  On a different but important theme, parents/carers in Year 6, please ask your child what they learned in the PCSO talk on online safety, which children had this morning.  Thank you.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes
