Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

Today is NSPCC Number Day – thank you for your support in helping children to wear all kinds of different numbers into school.  We have calculators, Things 1/2/3, basketball kit, football shirts, calculators, hats, jewellery, number-pox, to name but a few.  In assembly this morning our challenge was to make calculations using our numbers, eg 25 (Tunbury leavers’ hoodie) - 10 (Jude Bellingham England shirt) = 15.  If you added up all the numbers in Tunbury today, our estimate is a total of 3980!

As well as having maths-related-fun on Number Day, we are also raising funds for the NSPCC.  Keeping children safe is always our most important priority and we’re keen to support such a powerful charity.  You can donate via our NSPCC JustGiving site  or via the QR code in our notices section below.  Currently (on Friday morning) we have already raised £148!  Thank you for your donations.

On a completely separate note, this week I would also like to remind everyone about our home-school agreement.  At Tunbury, we value support from our parents/carers and we know that partnership working is important for our children to thrive.  However, Tunbury teachers have reported feeling uncomfortable recently with some very rare but concerning instances of aggressive or confrontational behaviour from parents, during phone calls or in-person conversations.  We all have children’s best interests at heart, so please do remember that teachers are people too.  As specified in our home-school agreement, we ask you to provide a good role model for your children and always treat staff and all children with respect and courtesy.  Thank you for your support.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes

Singing Club

On Thursday, this week, children in Singing Club, joined an estimated 250,000 children who have attended Young Voices concerts this year, to sing a Bob Marley medley.  It would have been a fitting tribute to someone, whose music is still heard after all this time.

Year 3 Fair Trade Visits

This week, the Year 3 classes have visited Walderslade Co-op, to compare the cost of Fairtrade products against similar produces.  They were really surprised to learn that they are not always more expensive.  Their mission is now to try to encourage more families to purchase more Fairtrade products, if they don’t already do so, to ensure that all workers receive a fair wage for their efforts. Thank you to the adults who came with us.

Thanks also to the parents who completed Y3’s questionnaire about Fairtrade products.  The children are now in the process of analysing all your results.
