Weekly Bulletin: Friday 7th January 2022
Headteacher’s message to parents/carers
Welcome back and Happy New Year! Children returned to school this week in good spirits, ready to learn and happy to be back with their friends and teachers.
Every class has started new topics this week and children have an exciting learning journey to look forward to at the start of 2022. We always wish to provide you with information to enable you to support your children at home, so as usual we’re sharing Topic Newsletters for the new term. These have been emailed home to each year group today and are also shared on the class pages of the school website: please visit www.tunbury.kent.sch.uk/Curriculum/ and then go to the class page for your year group.
Also, today, every child has brought home with them an envelope containing an attainment update from the end of Term 2. Please read this information carefully and use it to support your child with their learning – whether this be general encouragement or extra support at home with reading, writing or maths, anything you can do will make a difference. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s learning, please discuss this with their class teacher.
Today’s envelope also contains a lilac sheet with the individual data (home address, phone numbers etc) that we hold for you. We are required to check the accuracy of this data with you, so we would appreciate your help in confirming this for us by returning the lilac sheets to school by Friday 14th January. Thank you for your continued support.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
Staffing news: We would like to extend a warm welcome to Team Tunbury for Miss Toms, who is our new teacher for Scarlet class. Welcome back to Miss Gordon, who has returned from maternity leave this week and will be working in Year 5 and Year 6. We also would like to share the news that Mrs Walker, who previously taught Bears class in Reception prior to her maternity leave, will not be returning to Tunbury as she has decided to be a full-time Mum – we wish her all the very best for the future.
After School clubs: All of our after-school extra-curricular clubs will be running next week. Please see details on our website: https://www.tunbury.kent.sch.uk/After-School-Clubs/
There are currently spaces on the following clubs: board games, KS2 football, netball, science, singing, spanish. To book a place for your child please email the school office – firstname.lastname@example.org
Children from all clubs will be collected from the entrance to the main hall or outside the main office. Please come in via the pedestrian gate, please do not try to drive in to the school car park as it will be busy with children and families and this car park is for staff only. Thank you.
Swimming lessons: This term’s swimming lessons for Year 4 start next week on Tuesday 11th January with Lilac class. Swimming lessons for Year 5, Indigo and Turquoise classes will also start again next week on Wednesday 12th January. Please ensure children bring their swimming kits to school.
Admissions for children starting school in September 2022: Deadlines approaching! Kent admissions close at midnight on Monday 17 January 2022. Medway admissions close at 5pm on Saturday 15 January 2022.
Applications for a primary school place should be made via your ‘home’ local authority:
- Kent residents apply at www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools/school-places
- Medway residents apply at www.medway.gov.uk/admissions
PE kits for winter: As we move in to the time of year where we are mostly likely to receive particularly wet or cold weather, we would just like to remind you that PE kits may need to be adjusted in order to allow us to continue to teach PE lessons outside as much as possible. Please could you ensure that your child has the following items with their PE kit:
- hat, scarf and gloves
- spare pair of socks
- trainers rather than plimsolls
- tracksuit bottoms and long sleeved tracksuit top
Data Collection Sheets: This document has been sent home today (printed on lilac coloured paper). It is vital that we have correct phone numbers and e-mail addresses if we are to communicate with you effectively.
When you are satisfied that the information on the Data Collection sheet is correct, please sign and date the form and return to your child’s class teacher or to the school office. Please sign and return the form even if there are no alterations to be made. Please return by Friday 14th January. Thank you for your help with this matter.
Covid-19: We are retaining a focus on cleaning, handwashing and ventilation for the new term, as well as mask-wearing for adults in communal areas of the school. Additionally, we are making use of CO2 monitors to help us to ensure that all areas of the school are well ventilated. At the present time, we have a number of Covid cases among children from the end of the Christmas holiday period, but very little disruption to staffing levels. We will continue to follow all relevant guidance and maintain our current control measures in school, as well as responding to any rise in case numbers or change in guidance.
Please stay alert to possible Covid symptoms, get a test promptly if you or your child experience symptoms and follow all NHS guidance (www.gov.uk/guidance/covid-19-coronavirus-restrictions-what-you-can-and-cannot-do ). As always, it is essential that you do not enter the school site if you have any Covid symptoms.
As a reminder, if you have Covid cases in your household, our local Health Protection Team’s advice is for all other members of the household (including other children who are still attending school) to take a daily lateral flow test so that any transmission of Covid is detected as soon as possible.

Class assemblies are scheduled to take place in-person, in the school hall, on Friday afternoons. Please come to the front of the school and wait outside the hall entrance doors. You will be invited in at approximately 2.45/2.50 pm. The assembly will begin at 2.50/2.55 pm and last for about 10 minutes, finishing in time for you to collect your children at the end of the school day, as normal.
If you are visiting school for a class assembly, please wear a face covering (unless exempt) and take a lateral flow test on the day, before coming into school. Please do not attend school if you have a positive lateral flow test or any Covid symptoms. Class assemblies are held in the hall with only the class and their parents/carers present, so there is adequate space and ventilation and for this reason, attendance is not limited to 1 visitor per child for these events.
