Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to the start of Term 6, which finally does feel like summer!

This week has been STEAM week, all on the theme of Time.  Children have loved their activities, which included the following in each year group (apart from Year 6, who are having STEAM week next week):

  • Year 5 were entering the crazy world of Salvador Dali and his melting clocks, then recreating this with their own interpretations.
  • Year 4 were studying famous clocks throughout history and using this to create their timing devices using a variety of media.
  • Year 3 were examining the 24 time zones and creating a large piece of artwork depicting their understanding of this.
  • Year 2 were investigating reaction times and creating their own poem about time.
  • Year 1 were exploring their own life timelines and making their own class time machine.
  • Year R were looking at changes over time by creating time-lapse videos learning about a time-travelling potato!

As well as this, children brought in some magnificent Time Machines from home - these were fabulous and we were totally blown away by the effort and creativity involved.  All of our children visited our Time Machine exhibition in the hall yesterday and after zipping into the past and the future, luckily arrived back in 2024 in time for home time.  Phew!

We’ll include some further information on STEAM week in next week’s bulletin.

Also this week, congratulations to the two teams of Year 6 footballers who represented Team Tunbury at the Mini Youth Games yesterday.  We are so proud of how well the teams played and supported each other throughout the day, as they were brilliant ambassadors for our school.  Thank you for Miss Hawkes for leading the teams yesterday.  For further details, please see the news item below.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes

Ruth Austin

Mini Youth Games

Yesterday, 20 Year 6 children competed in the Mini Youth Games Football competition.  We entered two teams and competed in both the Cup and Plate competitions.  Tunbury Titans competed in the Cup and Tunbury Thunder competed in the Plate.  All of the children played fantastically well, with brilliant teamwork and fairplay throughout the day.  There were some fantastic goals scored, plus some great goalkeeping and defending too.

Tunbury Titans won 5 games, drew 1 and lost 2, finishing 14th out of 37 teams in the Cup competition.  Tunbury Thunder won 6 games and drew 2, finishing 5th out of 26 teams in the Plate competition.

A huge well done to all of the footballers, they all represented Tunbury brilliantly and they should be very proud of their efforts.

Titans - Jack, Harry, Aaron, Stanley, Emily, Rebekah, Charlotte, Funmi, Owen & Henry.

Thunder - Austin, Harrison, Teddy, Max, George, Matthew, Adae, Mia, Millie & Milly

Thank you to Mr Trotter and Mr Whybrow for their support plus a special thank you to Naomi for being our assistant coach on the day as she couldn't play!

2024 Tunbury parent/carer survey is now open: Please help us to celebrate Team Tunbury’s achievements, as well as identifying priorities for the next academic year.  You can access the survey via the following link or QR code. This year, we have new questions about ‘Meet the Teacher’ meetings (would you prefer to have them in July or September?), enrichment events for children and behaviour.   The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete.  It closes on Monday 17th June.  Thank you for your continuing support.

Spelling Shed: We have just signed up to a new scheme to support our teaching of spelling across Key Stage 2.  Over the next week or so, your child will bring home their login for the Ed Shed website where teachers will have set games and children can complete homework activities.  The login your child brings home will have a QR code on it which you can scan from the login page on the Ed Shed website (see link below).  If you have any questions or queries about this, please speak to your child’s class teacher.

SEN courses and meetings: Please see details below for your information.

In addition please see below details of an advice/drop-in session for parents/carers of children pre or post ASC/ADHD diagnosis:
