Headteacher’s message to parents/carers

Dear Parents/Carers,

End of term already… how time flies!  Term 4 is short but very busy, and we’ve certainly packed a great deal in.

Earlier on this term, I told you about the ‘key question’ for each topic in Years 1-6.  As we have now reached the end of term, all children should now be able to answer these questions, so please do ask them.  This is a great way of opening up a conversation about their learning, and means that they can’t say ‘nothing!’ when you ask them what they have learned at school….

Year 1: Past Times

How was a Victorian childhood different?

Year 2: Towers and Turrets

How is a castle different to other buildings?

Year 3: The Mysteries of the Maya

What remains of the Ancient Mayans?

Year 4: Storm chasers

How destructive can the weather be?

Year 5: CSI Tunbury

What clues can be left behind at a crime scene?

Year 6: World War 2

How did WW2 affect our local area?

This week, children enjoyed two very different Easter experiences on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning…  On Monday, we had our fabulous TSA Easter discos, which were a great success and lots of fun for children and staff.  Then the following morning, we visited Walderslade Baptist Church for our Easter Services with minister Rev Stephen Roe, where children reflected on the meaning of Easter.  In both occasions, children were impeccably behaved and gained something new from their experiences!

Thank you to our TSA volunteers for working so hard for our children, with both the Easter Disco and the Easter Hunt this week.  Remember that our Easter Hunt will be on the lower playground from 3.15 today – we look forward to seeing you there.

We wish all of our families a very Happy Easter and we hope that everyone enjoys a safe and restful holiday period.  We look forward to seeing children back in school on Monday 15th April.

Best wishes

Ruth Austin

After School Clubs: Please note that this week was the last session for our current after school clubs. Look out for details of a new selection of clubs for Term 5 and 6, which will be sent out after Easter.

Breakfast and After School Childcare: Junior Adventures Group (JAG) our Breakfast and After School Childcare provider have added two new sessions. They are now able to offer a 1 hour session and a 2 hour session for their after-school bookings, making it cheaper for any parents who would like a shorter childcare window at the end of school. To make a booking and view the details please visit JAG's website via the link below:

“Ne'er cast a clout 'til May be out”: Although we are now into Spring please remember that our weather can still be unpredictable so please can we remind parents that children still need to bring coats into school to wear at break times on the playground. This includes on PE days.

Sunflower seeds: The children have been given packets of sunflower seeds this week, kindly donated by Andrew Kennedy, the Kent County Councillor for Malling North East (Aylesford, Blue Bell Hill, Burham, Ditton, Eccles, Peters Village, Walderslade and Wouldham). He says:

“Each year I try to do something for local children which is also supportive of the environment. Two years ago, I distributed 500 packets of BeeBomb Seeds. Last year it was wild bird food. This year, sunflowers! They can be grown at home (in the garden or a pot/container) or the children can gift them to a family member or neighbour if they prefer.”

Maybe send a picture to the school office when your sunflowers have grown!

Snacks reminder: Please remember that we are a ‘healthy’ school, so any snacks brought in from home to be eaten at break time must be a healthy snack, i.e. fruit or vegetables.  Please do not send children in with crisps, sweets or chocolate.  Thank you for your support and understanding.

School dinner payments: Our school lunch providers, TCS, (Total Catering Solutions) have requested parents do not use Parent Mail to pay for school lunches as they are still experiencing technical issues with this system.  Please pay for school lunches in cash or cheques payable to TCS Education Catering Ltd. This can be sent to school in a sealed, named envelope via the class teacher. Please be advised that any credit that was on your accounts on the last day of term has been transferred to a paper register.

Miss Elliott London Marathon: Crimson class teacher Miss Elliott is running the London Marathon in April this year to raise money for the mental health charity, Mind.  We’re keen to support her in this, so would like to share her fundraising page with everyone in the Tunbury school community.  Everyone in Team Tunbury wishes her all the very best with both the running and the fundraising! https://2024tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com/pf/madeleine-elliott
